Young "multi-talented" teacher
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Dung (born in 1996), is a Natural Science teacher at Tan Lap Secondary School, Dan Phuong District, Hanoi.
As a young teacher, Ms. Dung is always actively involved in social activities, is a key member of the 4-Leaf Clover Club and volunteers to teach skills to prevent sexual abuse for children at schools in provinces such as Phu Tho, Quang Ninh and Da Nang...
Practical experiences are the way for her to understand and grasp students' psychology, thereby coming up with many initiatives in teaching, creating an interesting and engaging learning environment.
For example, she pioneered in collecting nylon and sending it to Limat Zero Waste to recycle and use it to make handmade items such as bags, wallets, etc. This is a production and business facility where 70% of its employees are people with disabilities.
Or once, Ms. Dung organized an experiential activity at the Center for Education for Autistic and Intellectually Disabled Youth in Tan Lap Commune, thereby educating students about compassion, solidarity, and sharing with the less fortunate.
The female teacher also always tries to create activities such as: Exploring the world through a microscope, planting trees in the classroom, making key chains, hand-embroidered mirrors... Therefore, Ms. Dung's classes are always filled with laughter and joy from her students.
“The students are all very active and eager to participate in the activities. This is also an opportunity for me to connect and understand my students better,” said Ms. Thuy Dung.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Dung always cares about the spiritual life of students. Right before the midterm exam, she proactively connected with experts in clinical psychology, organizing a mini talk to help students relieve stress and exam pressure. Importantly, this is a space for students to listen, share, and be inspired to study effectively.
"Meeting with psychologists will help parents promptly detect early signs of psychological problems in their students," Ms. Dung shared.
Use love to reform unruly students
During more than 21 years working in the education sector, Ms. Phung Thi Vui - Literature teacher, Ngoc Lam Secondary School (Long Bien, Hanoi) - has led many generations of students to maturity, and has encountered many happy and sad pedagogical situations...
There were even times when Ms. Vui became a bridge, bridging the gap between parents and students, using love to transform the stubborn student.
That is the case of a student named L - a student of the 2010-2014 school year - whose class she was the homeroom teacher.
L's family was not happy and in the eyes of his parents, L was a rebellious child. Once, when the teacher invited him to meet with him to coordinate in teaching his son, L's father could not control himself and beat him in front of the teacher.
Family conflicts hurt L and made him think negatively many times. To relieve his frustration and self-control, he sometimes rebelled. The climax was the disagreement with his family that made L run away from home.
Hearing the news, unable to bear it, Ms. Vui went to L's house, becoming a bridge to help her and her family have their first serious talk without any beatings.
"In the following days, L gradually changed clearly, becoming more emotional and understanding," Ms. Vui recalled.
Even more special, from a rebellious child who made his parents lose faith, L passed the entrance exam to Phuc Loi High School, 8 points higher than the standard score that year. L's parents later met Ms. Vui and thanked her when their child seemed to have "changed blood".
"When I talk about L, the emotions come flooding back, still intact like the days when I directly taught my child in class. Middle school students have more psychological and physiological changes than any other level of education, but I never thought of them as rebellious children.
"If educated and deeply and firmly rooted in morality, children will naturally behave properly and harmoniously at any stage" - Ms. Vui shared.
Ms. Vui and Ms. Dung are 2 of 70 teachers awarded the 8th Hanoi Dedicated and Creative Teachers Award 2024 at the city level.
The award aims to honor Hanoi teachers who are enthusiastic and dedicated to the teaching profession; have made outstanding contributions to the emulation movement "Innovation and creativity in teaching and learning".
