The flood that occurred early in the morning of July 25 completely washed away National Highway 12 at km 170+730 in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district.
The Department of Transport of Dien Bien province has directed units to focus manpower and machinery to level, install temporary culverts and gabions, and simultaneously grade to reinforce the road surface, ensuring the circulation of cars and motorcycles.
Additionally, vehicles and machinery were arranged to clear mud and soil at landslide points, while officers were deployed to ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles passing through.
By noon today (July 29), traffic on National Highway 12 through the Muong Pon commune area, Dien Bien district has ensured phase 1 traffic, allowing motorcycles, cars with up to 16 seats, and small trucks to pass through.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong, the flood and flash flood that occurred on the night of July 24 and early morning of July 25 in Muong Pon commune resulted in 2 deaths and 5 missing persons. To date, authorities have found 2 bodies out of the 5 missing persons, with 3 still unaccounted for.
The flash flood also swept away dozens of houses, many houses collapsed, and about 100 other houses were damaged. Notably, about 50 meters of road were completely eroded to a depth of about 4-5 meters, paralyzing National Highway 12.
