On the morning of March 4, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) officially closed and held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to repair runways and taxiways at Lien Khuong International Airport (Lam Dong).

Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong - Deputy General Director of ACV said that after nearly 20 years of continuous operation, the runway and taxiway system of Lien Khuong airport has deteriorated and needs to be upgraded and repaired synchronously.

The project is invested by ACV, implemented in Duc Trong commune, is a class I aviation traffic project with a total investment of 1,032 billion VND.
The scale includes repairing the entire runway, taxiway, safety strip at the beginning of the runway and technical infrastructure system, equipment to ensure flight operation.

The project's focus is on comprehensive repair of runway 09-27 (3. 250m long, 45m wide).
The technical breakthrough is to replace existing asphalt concrete structures with durable cement concrete, increasing load-bearing capacity, meeting the operation of modern aircraft types.

According to ACV leaders, immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, the unit will coordinate with contractors to accelerate progress, striving to bring the airport back into operation at 11:59 PM on August 25, 2026.
Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi said that upgrading Lien Khuong airport is necessary and urgent.

Over the past time, the province has coordinated with ministries and sectors to carefully calculate the plan to close the airport, minimizing the impact on the local socio-economy.
The locality also proactively plans to organize traffic connecting Da Lat by road, ensuring safety and convenience for people and tourists through key national highways such as National Highway 20, National Highway 28 and National Highway 28B.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the investor and contractors to focus maximum manpower and vehicles, organize "3 shifts, 4 teams" construction, drastically direct, and ensure that the project meets and exceeds the schedule.
Construction must be calculated in days and hours to soon put the airport back into operation," Mr. Ho Van Muoi emphasized.

The project not only comprehensively restores the capacity of the airfield area, ensuring safe operation in all weather conditions, but is also a stepping stone to realize the planning of Lien Khuong to become a level 4E airport, ready to welcome wide-body aircraft such as Airbus A350, Boeing 787.
Through this, the port aims to reach 5 million passengers/year by 2030 and 7 million passengers by 2050.
ACV is committed to focusing maximum resources, ensuring quality and progress, and soon bringing Lien Khuong International Airport back to serve passengers.
