The road project connecting Thach Bich bridge to Tho Phong commune is only 6.11 km long, but in the process of implementation, many "bottlenecks" have appeared that have lasted for many years due to site clearance problems. Notably, this project alone has had 4 times provincial leaders directly go to the site to inspect and urge progress.
The project has a total investment of more than 694 billion VND, implemented from 2019 - 2025, invested by the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. According to the plan, when completed, the project will reduce the load on National Highway 1 and National Highway 24B, especially the section through Truong Quang Trong ward and VSIP Industrial Park, and create motivation for local socio-economic development. However, to date, the project is still unfinished.
According to reporters' records, at the starting point connecting National Highway 24B (Truong Quang Trong ward), the road surface has been asphalted, painted, and planted with quite complete green trees. However, going about 300 m, the road suddenly "interrupted" due to households not yet relocated.
From above, it can be clearly seen that many sections of the route have completed the roadbed but are divided by houses that have not been cleared. The construction site is sparse, the construction atmosphere is almost stagnant.
Yesterday afternoon, Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoang - Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee continued to inspect the project site. This is the 4th time provincial leaders have directly come to the scene to direct the removal of obstacles.
Previously, in November 2025, Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoang inspected and requested to review bottlenecks for handling. In April 2025, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also directly urged progress. Further, in May 2023, Mr. Dang Van Minh - former Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee went to the construction site to request focus on definitively resolving problems.
The fact that a transport project is more than 6 km long but provincial leaders have to directly inspect it many times shows that the difficulties in site clearance are not small.
According to the report at the inspection, the handed-over site reached more than 61%. The total value of construction and installation only reached about 58% of the contract.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assessed that the progress of site clearance has improved but has not met the direction requirements and expectations of the people.
He requested departments, branches and localities to strengthen coordination, focus on removing remaining bottlenecks; strive to complete site handover before April 2026 so that contractors can accelerate construction. The province sets a target to open traffic in 2026.
In 2026, the project will be allocated about 110 billion VND. However, if the site is continued to be delayed, 100% disbursement of capital will be a major challenge.
With a road of just over 6 km but lasting for many years and having to be continuously "heated up" by inspections by provincial leaders, the story of site clearance is a bottleneck that determines the fate of this project.
