The investment project to build, renovate and expand 5 key intersections in Ninh Kieu district was approved by the People's Committee of Can Tho City in November 2023, with a total investment of more than 1,196 billion VND.
The 5 renovated intersections include: intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3 February - Tran Hung Dao); intersection No. 2 (Mau Than - Nguyen Van Cu - Vo Van Kiet); intersection No. 3 (Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Van Cu); intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3 February) and intersection No. 5 (Nguyen Van Linh - 30/4).
The project implementation period is from 2021 to 2025. In particular, the two intersections with high traffic volume, intersection No. 1 and intersection No. 4, will be prioritized for implementation first.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Thai - Deputy Director of the Project Management and Land Fund Development Board of Ninh Kieu District - informed that the initial plan was to start construction at intersection No. 1 and intersection No. 4 in the fourth quarter of 2024. However, due to the implementation of the new Land Law, the appraisal of land prices and compensation plans for the project takes a lot of time.
The People's Committee of Ninh Kieu District will pay compensation to households in early December 2024, while the activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year of At Ty will begin in mid-January 2025, so it is not possible to request people to hand over the site before Tet to start construction as planned.
To overcome this situation, the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu District has directed relevant units to strengthen coordination, promptly resolve problems, and at the same time promote propaganda and mobilize people to hand over the site for the project.
According to the leader of the Ninh Kieu District Project Management and Land Fund Development Board, the No. 1 intersection has an estimated compensation cost of about 578 billion VND. The total number of households affected by the project is about 122 cases, with more than 480 people. The total area of recovered land is about 5,960m2.
Up to now, intersection No. 1 has paid compensation to 18/28 cases, reaching 52.91% of approved funding; at the same time, it has completed the work of counting, measuring land, houses, architectural objects and announcing land recovery.
Intersection No. 4 has an estimated compensation cost of about 96.5 billion VND. To date, compensation has been paid to 28/31 households, reaching 81% of the approved budget; the work of counting, measuring land, houses, architectural objects and announcing land recovery has been completed; the announcement of site allocation has been implemented to 29 households.
Currently, the selection of construction contractors at intersections No. 1 and No. 4 has been completed. Of which, the construction cost of intersection No. 1 is more than 38.5 billion VND; intersection No. 4 is more than 35.5 VND. The project is expected to start construction in the first quarter of 2025.
The project investment scale consists of 2 phases. In which, phase 1 expands the intersection to the same level, controls with traffic lights, and arranges independent right turns. In the future, phase 2 will consider arranging overpasses or underpasses according to traffic needs.
The project to renovate and expand 5 key intersections is of great significance in reducing traffic congestion, improving traffic capacity, contributing to improving urban aesthetics and promoting the socio-economic development of Ninh Kieu district in particular and Can Tho city in general.
