Many flooded points, risk of unsafety
Provincial road 586 is an important traffic route connecting ethnic minority villages in Lia and A Doi communes with the central area. However, on this road, there are still many low-lying locations, overflow bridges that have not been invested to overcome floods, and are often flooded when it rains heavily.
According to records, in the first 10 days of August 2026, overflow bridges on the route have been flooded twice, causing people and vehicles to be unable to travel. If entering the peak rainy season, the situation of division may occur more often.
Mr. Tran Dinh Dung - Chairman of Lia Commune People's Committee said that on DT. 586 route, there are currently 2 overflow bridges that have not been upgraded, belonging to Tan Thuan and A Xing villages. These are points that are frequently affected by heavy rain.
During the recent rain, the overflow bridge in A Xing village area was flooded. Previously, some hot spots had flood overpasses invested in, so the divided situation was basically resolved, but there are still locations that need to continue to be invested in" - Mr. Dung said.
Not only affecting traffic, the overflowing bridge being flooded also directly affects people's production, study and living activities. In particular, in A Doi commune, according to Mr. Tran Trong Kim - Chairman of A Doi Commune People's Committee, on provincial road 586 through the commune, there are currently 3 points that are frequently flooded when it rains heavily.
These points are located at Km26 in A Doi Co village, Km31 in Trum village and Km36 in Ba Tang village. These are locations that the locality has proposed to invest in for many years, but have not been allocated resources to implement" - Mr. Kim said.
According to Mr. Kim, in the rainy and flood season, travel through flooded points is difficult. Students, teachers, officials and people at times cannot move back and forth.
In the Ba Tang area, in the rainy and flood season, the situation of division often occurs. Teachers cannot enter schools, and students are also affected in their studies. If flooding occurs as it is now in the summer, the situation will be even more complicated in the rainy season," Mr. Kim said.
Hoping to have a flood overpass soon
Not only flooded, some locations on the route also showed signs of damage after the impact of water flow. On August 11, Lia Commune People's Committee discovered a spillway at Km18+200 on Provincial Road 586 showing cracks and crack separation; some cracks are about 2-3cm wide, posing a potential risk to the structure and safety of people and vehicles traveling.
Faced with the reality that many points on provincial road 586 are frequently flooded, local people hope that functional agencies will soon have solutions to invest in flood overpasses to ensure smooth traffic.
Voters in Lia commune have repeatedly proposed to the province to invest in building a flood overpass passing through the area, in order to avoid traffic congestion and create favorable conditions for people to travel and transport goods.
Before the voters' proposals, the Department of Construction also had a written response, intending to advise the province to include it in the investment plan in 2027 when the capital source is balanced" - Mr. Tran Dinh Dung informed.
According to the Quang Tri Provincial Department of Construction, Provincial Road 586 is currently 37.9km long, passing through Lao Bao commune, Lia commune and A Doi commune. This is a road with many spillways that are often deeply flooded in the rainy and flood season, affecting the exploitation capacity and people's lives.
Previously, functional sectors had completed the investment in building flood overpasses at Km3+937 and Km12+771 locations. However, some other locations have not yet been deployed due to limited funding.
The Department of Construction said that the proposal to invest in bridges in Lia and A Doi communes is a necessary need. However, because the investment in new bridges requires large funding, it cannot be implemented immediately; in the coming time, it will continue to seek capital sources and report to competent authorities for consideration of investment in priority order.
