According to data from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province, during the 9-day Tet holiday of At Ty 2025, the number of tourists coming to the locality reached over 168 thousand arrivals.
The sharp increase in the number of tourists to Ha Giang during holidays throughout the year has shown the attractiveness of tourism in this locality, contributing to socio-economic development and improving people's lives.
However, the large number of people and vehicles coming to tourist destinations at a certain time has put great pressure on accommodation and transportation services. For many years, traffic jams at tourist destinations in Ha Giang have frequently occurred.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Trang (Hanoi City) said that the whole family chose to travel to Ha Giang from the 3rd day of Tet by personal car. From Ha Giang City to 4 mountainous districts with beautiful scenery but frequent traffic jams, especially at tourist and check-in spots.
"It took my family nearly 2 hours to get to the photo spot on Tham Ma slope even though it was only 1km away. Too many people and vehicles were coming, everyone stopped to take photos and check in," Ms. Trang complained.
Sharing the same unpleasant experience, Mr. Tran Cuong (Thai Binh) said: "A long line of hundreds of large and small cars lined up along the road waiting to enter the tourist spot on top of Ma Pi Leng Pass. People who wanted to go through were not allowed, and those who wanted to take pictures had to wait a long time."
Local traffic jams occurred at many tourist and sightseeing spots along National Highway 4C, the main route from Ha Giang City to 4 districts of the Stone Plateau. This has made many tourists quite tired.
Explaining the cause of this situation, Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung, a bridge and road engineer with more than 15 years of construction experience in the northern mountainous provinces, said that the congestion on National Highway 4C and some tourist routes in Ha Giang is only local.
"The vital National Highway 4C route to four mountainous districts of Ha Giang is narrow and has many steep and winding passes, so vehicles cannot travel at high speeds. Therefore, when too many vehicles converge at certain times, local congestion is inevitable," Mr. Hung explained.
According to the analysis of this bridge engineer, along Highway 4C there are currently many stops for tourists to visit and take photos, but there are no parking lots or the parking lots are too small, not meeting the demand when the number of vehicles stopping and parking increases.
Mr. Hung commented that when there is a lack of parking spaces, tourists are forced to stop their cars on the side of the road to get to sightseeing spots. Mountain roads are already small, and cars parked up to 1/3 of the road will certainly cause traffic congestion.
"In my opinion, the long-term solution for Ha Giang province is to plan and build parking lots that are large enough. Research on widening roads in areas passing through tourist attractions. In the short term, we can increase the number of functional forces to direct and regulate traffic at areas that are often congested," said engineer Hung.
