According to records at traditional markets in Can Tho City, in the last months of the year, goods are sold in a variety of ways, prices remain stable. In particular, seafood products have increased sharply.
For freshwater fish, prices have increased by 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg compared to the flood season, squid costs 300,000 - 350,000 VND/kg, 20-piece/kg tiger prawns cost 250,000 VND/kg...
Compared to 2 months ago, seafood products at Ms. Kim Lien's stall (Tan An market, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) have increased in price from 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.
"It's the end of the flood season so there are few freshwater fish left like at the beginning of the season. There are few products, but customers prefer freshwater fish so the selling price has increased, but purchasing power remains almost the same. On days when there are many customers, the fish are sold out in 2-3 hours," said Ms. Lien.
At the seafood purchasing warehouse of Mr. Nguyen Nhut Cuong (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city), the price of seafood has also increased by 15 - 20%, and will likely continue to increase at the end of the year, especially during the Lunar New Year.
Mr. Cuong said: At the end of the year, the demand for dried fish, shrimp, and fish sauce increases, but the amount of fishing and farming by people decreases, falling at the end of the season, so prices increase. The closer to Tet, the more likely seafood prices will increase due to strong demand.
