Da Nang and Hue study and develop Son Cha island

Da Nang and Hue plan to cooperate to turn the small island at the foot of Hai Van Pass into a destination for the super-rich.

On February 28, the People's Committee of Da Nang City announced that Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, had signed a decision approving the integrated component of the proposal to link economic development cooperation with the provinces in the South Central Coast, Central - Central Highlands and the East-West 2 Economic Corridor.

Thus, Da Nang City and Hue City are aiming to cooperate in developing Son Cha Island (also known as Son Tra Con or Hon Chao) into a unique eco-resort destination, aiming for the high-end and super luxury customer segment.

The two cities will jointly study the feasibility and investment plan to turn Son Cha into an isolated snail, bringing a classy resort experience in the middle of pristine nature. In addition to Son Cha, Da Nang and Hue also aim to cooperate in investing and exploiting the tourism potential of Sung Co, Ma Da and Hai Van Quan beaches.

Previously, in September 2024, the Government Office announced the conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, assigning Da Nang city to manage Son Cha island and the area south of Hai Van mountain. Thua Thien - Hue province (now Hue city) manages the area north of Hai Van mountain.

Currently, Son Cha still retains its wild beauty, a small island at the foot of Hai Van peak. At the same time, it is a military station of border guards, ensuring national border sovereignty and security. The sea area around the island has a diverse and rich ecosystem, with many rare coral, seaweed and seafood species, promising the potential for sustainable ecotourism development.
