Drought, risk of affecting sugarcane areas
On the afternoon of May 13, Mr. Vo Ngoc Chau - Chairman of Ia Rsai Commune People's Committee, Gia Lai province said: "In hot weather, Tuy Hoa Sugar Factory is currently making efforts to accelerate the purchase of sugarcane from farmers. Currently, there are still about 300 hectares that have not been harvested, if delayed, there will be a risk of sugarcane drying out and losing sugar reserves.
Ia Rsai is located in a large sugarcane material area of thousands of hectares in Gia Lai province, a newly developed sugarcane growing area, linked to the factory.
From the beginning of May to now, prolonged heat has made people worried about the sugarcane area that is slow to harvest. Drought on sandy land can quickly cause sugarcane to wilt and burn, affecting production efficiency, causing people to worry about losing income.

According to the report of the Economic Department of Ia Rsai commune, the total sugarcane area of the commune is 893 hectares. Currently, 591 hectares have been harvested, reaching a rate of 66.18%. The remaining area is 302 hectares, with an estimated output of 22,500 tons.
Will increase sugarcane harvesting intensity
Representatives of Tuy Hoa Sugar Joint Stock Company said that the unit is currently focusing on peak harvesting with an average output of 600-700 tons/day; it is expected to buy all sugarcane in Ia Rsai commune in the next 30-40 days.
Due to the sudden increase in oil prices, sugarcane transport vehicles operated sluggishly, and the company had to adjust fares to encourage car companies to continue operating.

Since after Tet, prolonged heat has caused many sugarcane areas to be burned. The company must prioritize purchasing and rescuing burned sugarcane to reduce damage to people, disrupting harvest schedules and production plans.
In addition, due to floods at the end of 2025, many sugarcane areas were flooded, and the company also had to organize purchases to reduce damage to people in the 2025-2026 crop year. Sugarcane was swept away by floods, with a lot of soil and sand, causing damage to machinery during the company's sugarcane pressing process.
According to Mr. Vo Ngoc Chau - Chairman of Ia Rsai Commune People's Committee, despite facing many difficulties, Tuy Hoa Sugar Joint Stock Company has committed to purchase all sugarcane from farmers.
In recent years, thanks to linking to expand sugarcane production raw material areas, people in localities such as Uar, Phu Tuc, Phu Thien, Ia Pa, Ayun Pa, Ia Rsai... have stabilized their lives and increased their income.
Gia Lai currently has the largest sugarcane area in the country with over 40,000 hectares. Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requests functional sectors to effectively convert crop structure in terms of economy to form raw material areas and link production chains with value.
In which, key agricultural crops such as: sugarcane, coffee, durian, passion fruit, pepper... are focused on large-scale development, up to thousands of hectares, with processing and export value.
