In the current prolonged hot season, the risk of sugarcane fires in the raw material area west of Gia Lai is increasing, causing people to worry.
Thousands of hectares of sugarcane, the main source of income for many households, are facing the risk of heavy damage as the weather becomes increasingly dry and harsh.
In Phu Tuc commune, Mr. Ho Van Thao - Secretary of the Commune Party Committee said that the locality has proactively implemented many solutions to minimize damage to people.
In which, coordination with sugar factories is considered an urgent solution. "We have contacted and requested factories to speed up the purchase of burned sugarcane to minimize damage. At the same time, guide people to urgently harvest the remaining sugarcane area, avoiding prolonging it in unfavorable weather conditions," Mr. Thao informed.

Similarly, in Ia Rsai commune, local authorities also quickly intervened when sugarcane fires occurred.
Mr. Vo Ngoc Chau - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said that as soon as he received the information, the commune coordinated with relevant units to support people in consuming burnt sugarcane.
We have contacted sugar factories to speed up purchasing progress, creating conditions for people to consume products soon. At the same time, the locality also requested purchasing units to have appropriate support policies for affected sugarcane areas, contributing to sharing difficulties with sugarcane growers," Mr. Chau said.
Not only stopping at the above two localities, the risk of sugarcane fires is present in many places in the raw material area west of Gia Lai. Typically, in Kong Bo La commune, where there are more than 5,100 hectares of sugarcane, the harvest progress is currently only about 60%.

In the context of prolonged hot and dry weather, the area of sugarcane not yet harvested is still large, which means the risk of widespread fire spread.
Reality shows that from the beginning of the year to now, Kong Bo La commune alone has recorded 7 fires, causing damage to more than 10 hectares of sugarcane.
The main reason is that sugarcane is fallen, the dry layer of leaves accumulates thickly, which is very flammable. Just a small spark can quickly break out into a large fire, difficult to control.

Faced with that situation, local authorities have strengthened propaganda and mobilized people to raise fire prevention awareness, proactively create firebreaks and not burn vegetation indiscriminately.
In the context of complicated weather diễn biến, the proactiveness of the government and people will play an important role in protecting raw material areas and maintaining livelihoods for thousands of farming households.
