In the world market, Robusta and Arabica coffee prices both increased sharply.
On the London floor, Robusta coffee futures for March 2025 reached $5,544/ton, up $62. Futures for May 2025 reached $5,499/ton, up $76, while futures for July 2025 increased $82 to $5,416/ton.
Similarly, Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor also recorded a significant increase. The March 2025 futures reached 347.55 cents/lb, up 3.60 cents. The May 2025 and July 2025 futures reached 343.05 cents/lb and 336.40 cents/lb, up 2.95 cents and 2.85 cents, respectively.
The main reason for this increase is the concern about the global coffee supply, especially the forecast of a decrease in production from Brazil. According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the country's coffee production is expected to reach 53.2 million 60-kg bags in 2025, down 6.8% compared to 2024. Arabica coffee production alone is expected to reach only 35.6 million bags, down 11.2% compared to the previous year.
The weakening of the US dollar also contributed to the rise in coffee prices. The US dollar index fell 1.8% last week, creating favorable conditions for commodity transactions such as coffee.
Coffee prices are expected to continue to fluctuate in the near future due to factors such as weather, production in major exporting countries and exchange rate fluctuations. However, given the current trend, coffee prices are likely to remain high in the short term.
