Transmission grid system is slow to deploy
On July 19, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee sent an official letter to the Prime Minister proposing recommendations to remove difficulties in the transmission grid system and relieve power capacity.
Over the past time, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has focused on synchronously implementing solutions to attract investment in power source projects according to the approved plan.
To date, power source projects included in the Adjustment of Power Plan VIII have basically completed procedures for investment policy approval, investor selection and completed procedures to prepare for commencement in 2026.
A series of wind power, solar power, floating solar power, hydropower... projects have been selected and approved for investors by Gia Lai province. In the last months of 2026, contractors will construct on the field.

However, what is worrying is that currently the transmission grid system to relieve capacity has not been synchronously invested by the electricity industry with the development speed of power source projects.
Especially the 220kV transmission grid. The most urgent is in the Krong Pa area (220kV Krong Pa substation and 220kV Krong Pa - Chu Se transmission line). This area currently has 5 renewable energy plants operating with a total capacity of 113.3 MW and 7 renewable energy projects under construction, expected to be put into operation by the end of 2027 with a total capacity of 202.24 MW.
Risk of wasting investment resources
If power sources are put into operation while the transmission grid does not meet the needs, it will lead to the risk of local overload, limiting the ability to unload capacity, causing waste of social investment resources and affecting electricity supply security.
Therefore, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Prime Minister consider and direct ministries and sectors to request Vietnam Electricity Group, National Power Transmission Corporation, and Central Power Corporation to urgently accelerate the investment progress of power grid projects according to the approved plan, promptly meeting the operating progress of power source projects.
Previously, the provincial government also proactively worked directly with the National Power Transmission Corporation and the Central Power Corporation to have solutions to accelerate the investment progress of power grid projects.
However, the electricity industry has not yet had a positive investment plan, and many key projects have not yet been included in the specific capital plan for implementation.
It is known that in the period 2022 - 2023, a series of solar power projects in Gia Lai were deployed and generated electricity into the grid. However, power discharge was limited due to the transmission grid not meeting the demand, along with the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on production and business activities, leading to the rotation of electricity sales by investors.
Businesses have repeatedly sent complaints and lawsuits to the electricity buyer, which is an electricity company operating in the area.
