On May 12, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that in the period 2020-2025, Gia Lai's livestock industry recorded strong development, especially in the field of pig farming with the second highest herd growth rate in the country.
Currently, the provincial government is focusing on developing a large-scale farm farming model, applying high technology, ensuring disease safety, food safety, environmental protection and linking according to the value chain, mainly in the western area of the province.
Thousands of hectares of stunted and underdeveloped rubber land in the province are also oriented and encouraged for businesses to convert to high-tech livestock projects, to make positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the border region.
Currently, the whole province has more than 460 pig farms with nearly 1 million pigs, accounting for 56.8% of the total pig herd. Notably, Gia Lai currently has 83 high-tech application farms with a total herd of more than 730 thousand pigs, accounting for 43.3% of the total pig herd of the whole province, mostly belonging to large enterprises.
For sustainable development, Gia Lai prioritizes using bad land funds, barren land, far from residential areas to expand livestock breeding, and at the same time focuses on developing in 7 key livestock breeding areas.
The province aims to maximize the ecological potential of each region, develop the main livestock herd in a concentrated, large-scale and high-tech application direction.
In the context of increasing competition from global export meat supply, Gia Lai's livestock industry is also facing pressure to innovate, improve competitiveness and participate more deeply in the closed value chain from breeds to product distribution.
