World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices continue to decrease. At the end of yesterday's trading session (May 19), WTI and Brent oil prices decreased by 0.22% and 0.73% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities continued to decline. At 7:05 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 103.84 USD/barrel, down 0.17 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.16%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 104.01 USD/barrel and opened this morning's session at 104.09 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 110.77 USD/barrel, down 0.21 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.19%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 110.98 USD/barrel and opened this morning's session at 111.06 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, oil prices fell after President Donald Trump announced the postponement of a military offensive plan against Iran, following calls for restraint from Persian Gulf allies. This development raises expectations that negotiations between the parties may resume in the near future.
Mr. Trump said that Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE have asked the US to "suspend" military action, and affirmed that serious negotiations are underway. However, Tehran has not yet confirmed this information.
Despite cooling down, oil prices remain high as global supply continues to be under pressure. Many oil flows are still disrupted, while energy infrastructure in the Middle East is constantly facing the risk of being attacked.
The market is currently closely monitoring the possibility of reaching a new agreement to de-escalate tensions, or conversely, the risk of further escalating military conflict. This is considered a key factor that could cause oil prices to fluctuate sharply in the near future.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the conflict in the Middle East has paralyzed transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, creating one of the largest oil supply disruptions in the world.
