World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices continue to record notable fluctuations. At the end of the weekend trading session, WTI oil price was at 86.64 USD/barrel, down 0.19 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.22%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 86.83 USD/barrel, and opened the weekend session at 86.32 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 93.93 USD/barrel, up 0.15 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.16%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 93.78 USD/barrel, and opened the weekend session at 93.21 USD/barrel.
World oil prices adjusted in opposite directions after US President Donald Trump warned he would impose economic sanctions on any country that supports Iran, increasing concerns that oil supplies from the Middle East continue to be disrupted.
US President Donald Trump declared an "unprecedented economic war and isolation" against Iran, and warned of economic consequences for any country or organization that supports Tehran or provides support to this country.
On August 21, Iran declared that its response to any new threat from the US would be "cruel". The statement was made after Washington pledged to impose the harshest financial sanctions in history against Iran, with the aim of overthrowing the country's leadership.
Meanwhile, Iran is considering a plan to collect fees and fine ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the proposed plan, vehicles passing through this strait may have to pay fees, while ships violating regulations may face penalties.
According to Kpler data, only 7 cargo ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz on August 21, half less than the previous day.
Before US-Israel attacks on Iran broke out at the end of February 2026, about 1/5 of the world's supply of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) was transported through the Strait of Hormuz.
To date, after nearly 6 months of conflict, transportation through the Strait of Hormuz is still seriously disrupted, increasing risks to the global energy market.
