World oil prices today
In the past week, world gasoline and oil prices fell sharply in the first session of the week. At 7:58 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 85.80 USD/barrel, down 1.26 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1.45%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 87.06 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 86.48 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 90.92 USD/barrel, down 1.75 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1.89%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 92.67 USD/barrel, and opened today's session also at 91.96 USD/barrel.
Gasoline and oil prices turned down in the first trading session of the week, in the context of the market closely monitoring the developments of global crude oil reserves, a factor considered a buffer zone to respond to supply shocks.
According to data from Kpler, total global crude oil reserves, including strategic reserves and commercial stockpiles, are expected to reach 3.45 billion barrels as of August 31, down 6% compared to the end of February 2026, when the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran.
Supply developments continue to be noticed in the context of escalating tensions related to Iran. US President Donald Trump declared an "unprecedented economic war and isolation" against Iran, and warned of economic consequences for any country or organization that supports Tehran or provides support to this country.
On the Iranian side, on August 22 (Tehran time), according to Xinhua news agency, Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei warned that any country participating in the US "economic war and isolation" campaign against Iran would be considered an enemy by Tehran.
Mr. Rezaei said that Iran will first negotiate with countries participating in US economic measures and request these countries not to engage in the conflict. However, if these countries refuse, Tehran will target their interests.
Mr. Rezaei also warned that if neighboring countries choose to participate in US-led encirclement measures against Iran, Tehran will prevent oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.
If neighboring countries choose to participate, Iran will not let even a drop of oil be exported through the Strait of Hormuz," Mr. Rezaei said.
The above statements continue to make developments in the Strait of Hormuz a factor closely monitored by the oil market, amid global oil inventories decreasing.
