World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices reversed to increase after consecutive price decreases. At 8:02 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 68.89 USD/barrel, up 0.66 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.95%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 69.23 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 70.09 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 73.35 USD/barrel, up 0.75 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 1.03%. Brent oil price ended the previous trading session at 72.60 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 73.52 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, world oil prices are rising again as tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate, raising concerns about the sustainability of the 60-day ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
Before the US and Iran reached a ceasefire agreement, the market was worried that escalating conflict would disrupt global oil supplies. However, after the agreement was established, these concerns gradually cooled down.
Analysts believe that the factor dominating the market today is the expectation that oil supply will soon turn into a surplus when production and the amount of crude oil and refined oil products put on the market increase. The market also recorded selling pressure as oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz gradually recovered.
However, in the early morning of June 28 (local time), Iran launched missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. Tehran said this was a response to Washington's latest airstrikes on Iranian territory.
The attack took place just hours after US troops raided Iranian missile depots, UAVs and coastal radar stations. Washington said the operation was in response to Iran's continuous attacks on commercial transport operations in the Strait of Hormuz, including the UAV attack on a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker on June 27.
The latest maritime transport data shows that ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has partially recovered after the US and Iran reached a ceasefire agreement. However, continuous military responses between the two sides are being seen by investors as a test of the ability to maintain the agreement, while increasing the risk of energy supply disruption in the near future.
