World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices simultaneously fell sharply. At the end of the last trading session of the week, Brent oil price decreased by 3.27 USD, equivalent to 4.34%, to 71.99 USD/barrel. WTI oil price decreased by 2.69 USD, equivalent to 3.74%, to 69.23 USD/barrel. For the whole week, Brent and WTI oil prices decreased by about 8%.
According to analysts, world oil prices fell sharply as more and more oil tankers that had been stranded left the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to easing concerns about the risk of supply disruption.
Before the US and Iran reached a 60-day ceasefire agreement, the market worried that escalating tensions would tighten global oil supplies. However, these concerns are gradually subsided as transportation through the Strait of Hormuz is gradually being restored.
Experts believe that the dominant viewpoint in the market is that oil supply may soon turn into a surplus state, as the amount of crude oil and refined products put on the market in the near future is forecast to increase sharply.
Transportation data from the London Stock Exchange (LSEG) shows that Saudi Aramco oil and gas group has resumed oil loading and unloading operations at Ras Tanura port, in the Arabian Gulf region, from June 26 after nearly 4 months of interruption. Currently, two super large oil tankers (VLCCs), each with a capacity of about 2 million barrels, have docked to receive oil, while another ship is anchored offshore.
The market also recorded a sell-off as supply through the Strait of Hormuz increased, in the context that China's oil import demand has not yet recovered significantly.
According to sea transport data, the amount of oil transported through the Strait of Hormuz this week has increased to the highest level since the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran broke out at the end of February. However, the ship traffic through this strategic maritime route is still significantly lower than the average of about 125 ships per day before the conflict occurred.
