World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices recorded many notable fluctuations. At the end of yesterday's trading session (June 25), WTI and Brent oil prices increased by 2.3% and 2.1% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities turned down. At 8:08 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 71.25 USD/barrel, down 0.67 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.93%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 71.91 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 71.56 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 74.85 USD/barrel, down 0.14 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.19%. Brent oil price ended the previous trading session at 74.99 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 75 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, world oil prices rose in the trading session on June 25 after a cargo ship was hit by a strange object near Oman. The incident caused the operation to support ships across the Strait of Hormuz to be temporarily suspended, raising concerns about the risk of disruption to global energy supplies.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) said it has suspended the operation to support ships and sailors passing through the Strait of Hormuz after the ship signaled suspicion of being attacked. This development has increased suspicions that the preliminary agreement aimed at cooling down the conflict between the US and Iran may not be as sustainable as expected.
Meanwhile, Iran declared that security for ships moving outside the designated shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz will not be guaranteed.
According to energy consulting firm Rystad Energy, oil storage facilities across the Gulf region are currently about 50-60% full. If the flow of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz does not recover soon, producing countries may be forced to cut production, causing the process of completely restoring supply to last until next year.
The US also warned that if Iran threatens or prevents ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, it will cause serious consequences. The US affirmed that no country has the right to collect fees for using international waterways and transportation fees will never be part of any agreement with Tehran.
On Iran's side, it estimates that collecting fees for security, safety and environmental services in the Strait of Hormuz could bring about 40 billion USD per year to related countries.
In addition to geopolitical factors, analysts believe that the upward momentum of oil prices in the session was also supported by technical buying power and short-selling positioning activities, after the market fell into a state of oversold for many consecutive sessions.
