Recorded at some grilled snakehead fish shops in the central area of Can Tho City, on the morning of February 7 (January 10), from the shop owner to the staff, everyone was busy serving the customers' need to buy grilled snakehead fish to worship the God of Wealth.
This year, grilled snakehead fish shops have stepped up online sales, helping customers place orders quickly and conveniently, without the hustle and bustle of the past. Although the number of customers coming to the store has decreased, the amount of fish sold is still quite large.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Ngo Thi Thuy An - owner of a snakehead fish shop on Tran Van Hoai Street, Ninh Kieu District - said that this year, she proactively received customers' online orders early, and at the same time arranged a team of attentive service staff, ensuring the quality of the fish, avoiding the situation of customers jostling and rushing to buy.
“A week ago, our store started accepting orders for grilled snakehead fish for God of Wealth Day via online sales channels. Customers can come pick up the goods, or if they want home delivery, they can place an order and have a shipper deliver it,” said Ms. An.
To prepare a large quantity of grilled snakehead fish to serve on God of Wealth Day, Ms. An's shop had to mobilize nearly 20 employees to work at full capacity all night, each doing different steps.
“At around 10pm, the staff starts to prepare the fish, pre-process the fish, vegetables, and dipping sauce. At 3am, everyone starts grilling the fish until noon (after the offering time) to deliver the fish to customers on time,” said Ms. An.
According to Ms. An, the current source of snakehead fish is abundant and stable. Her store always focuses on snakehead fish being fresh, delicious, and ensuring food hygiene and safety. At the same time, the staff works effectively to deliver goods to customers on time.
Holding a bag of grilled snakehead fish in her hand, Ms. Ngoc Nhi (Ninh Kieu district) excitedly shared that thanks to ordering grilled snakehead fish online in advance, she was able to pick up the fish quickly this morning, without having to jostle or wait in line.
“On the God of Wealth’s day this year, I prepared grilled snakehead fish, meat, shrimp, sweet soup... to offer at noon. This is an important occasion for business people like me to pray for good business and prosperity in the new year,” Ngoc Nhi said happily.
According to Ms. An, on the morning of the God of Wealth Day alone, her shop served about 500 grilled snakehead fish, with prices ranging from 200,000 - 250,000 VND/fish, depending on weight. Revenue this time was over 100 million VND. The shop also serves customers to eat on-site in the afternoon and evening.
On the day of the God of Wealth, most businesses, traders and merchants perform rituals to pray for a year of good business and prosperity. For people in the South, grilled snakehead fish is an indispensable dish on the offering tray. Therefore, this is a "bumper harvest" occasion for grilled snakehead fish vendors.
