A survey of deposit interest rates of more than 30 banks shows that the general level of short-term deposit interest rates is still maintained at a high level. Notably, many banks are listing interest rates of 4.75%/year for 3-month terms - the ceiling interest rate applied to deposits under 6 months according to the regulations of the State Bank.
A series of banks such as Cake by VPBank, Nam A Bank, MBV, BAC A BANK, OCB, VCBNeo, PGBank, BVBank, Sacombank, SaigonBank, BAOVIET Bank, VietABank, NCB, TPBank, MSB and PVcomBank all listed interest rates of 4.75%/year for a 3-month term.
In addition, some other banks also apply interest rates very close to the ceiling such as VPBank and SHB (4.65%/year), VietBank (4.6%/year),...
The fact that many banks simultaneously list maximum interest rates shows that the competitiveness in short-term capital mobilization is still high. In the context that the room to adjust interest rates below 6 months is almost gone, banks tend to switch to competition for longer terms.
In fact, right from the 6-month term, deposit interest rates at many banks have increased sharply to the 6-7%/year range. Some units such as Cake by VPBank listed 7.2%/year for the 6-month term and 7.4%/year for the 12-month term; MBV and VCBNeo both apply a rate of 7%/year for terms from 6 months or more; BAC A BANK listed 7.05-7.1%/year.
Meanwhile, the group of state-owned banks continues to maintain a significantly lower interest rate level. Vietcombank, VietinBank and BIDV all listed 2.4%/year for a 3-month term, while Agribank applies a rate of 2.9%/year.
The above developments show that short-term deposit interest rates are still being maintained at the ceiling level by many banks, while the race to attract deposit flows is currently more focused on terms of 6 months or more.
