Constant worry beside landslide points
In recent days, the riverbank erosion situation in Vinh Long province continues to be complicated, threatening houses, production land and many rural traffic routes.
In the Con Sung area, Cai Von ward, Mr. Tran Van Dung said that the dyke line has many frog holes eating deep into the mainland, approaching the road and more than 6,000m2 of Nam Roi grapefruit of his family.
According to Mr. Dung, the landslide situation is directly threatening the road and the pomelo area of his family. The frog's mouths are increasingly eating deeper inside, posing a risk of collapsing the road and continuing to encroach on production land.
Every time heavy rain appears or the flow changes, the family is always worried that the land will continue to be swept away. We hope functional agencies will soon have solutions to handle it, prevent landslides from spreading, and protect life and production," Mr. Dung added.

In Tan Long Hoi commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong said that the Mang River dyke section passing through the locality often landslides whenever there is high water. Many locations have been reinforced and repaired, but after only a short time, they continue to be damaged.
According to Mr. Hong, the area near his house has experienced landslides many times and has been repaired. However, the effectiveness is not sustainable when the points that have just been repaired continue to degrade, causing people to worry.
People hope that landslide treatment works must be invested to ensure quality and have more fundamental solutions. If they are just repaired and continue to be damaged, it will be very wasteful, no different from throwing money into the river," Mr. Hong expressed.
45 landslide points, affecting 146 households
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province, from the beginning of the year to now, natural disasters have caused damage of nearly 24 billion VND. In which, the whole province recorded 45 riverbank and coastal erosion points with a length of 5,811m, affecting 146 households. This is the type of natural disaster causing the most serious damage in the area.
Mr. Le Quang Rang - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province - said that accumulated from the beginning of the year to the time of reporting, natural disasters have caused 1 death due to lightning strikes; damaged 15 houses, including 1 house completely collapsed and 14 houses had their roofs blown off due to thunderstorms.
In addition to housing damage, natural disasters also damaged 1 fishing port infrastructure, 5 seafood businesses and 1 Border Guard checkpoint. In the field of agricultural production, 201.87ha of vegetables and crops were affected by heavy rain, thunderstorms and extreme weather phenomena.

Notably, out of a total of 45 landslide points recorded in the province, there are 44 landslide points, riverbank subsidence and 1 landslide point due to high tide. Many points are located close to residential areas, traffic routes and production land, posing a potential risk of further expansion.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, localities implemented the "4 on-the-spot" motto to proactively respond and overcome the consequences. For cases of loss of life, local authorities organize visits and encourage victims' families and complete dossiers requesting support.
For households with damaged houses, local authorities mobilize local forces to support people to relocate property, repair houses and stabilize their lives. Heavy damage cases are surveyed and assessed for damage level to carry out support procedures.
Specifically for landslide points, local authorities put up ropes and put up warning signs in dangerous areas and notify people to proactively prevent them. At the same time, functional sectors survey the current situation, assess the level of impact to propose handling solutions," Mr. Rang added.
