On the afternoon of April 9, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a press conference to inform about the management work in the first quarter of 2026. Answering press questions about the supply of gasoline and oil, a representative of the Domestic Market Management and Development Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that for imports from the Middle East, there have also been certain impacts in the past time.
However, according to feedback from key businesses, the signed shipments are basically still being deployed according to plan, without widespread interruptions. Some orders are behind schedule due to transportation, but the parties are actively handling them to bring goods to Vietnam.
In fact, in March, businesses increased imports with large volumes, about over 3.2 million m3. Along with domestic inventory, the supply is basically sufficient to ensure in April and May 2026.
Businesses have also proactively and actively diversified supply sources, not depending on the Middle East region, helping to minimize risks and improve the flexibility of the domestic gasoline and oil market.
In the context of the conflict in the Middle East, world fuel prices at times increased sharply, causing airline operating costs to increase. However, with the direction of the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the proactiveness of businesses, domestic aviation operations were basically maintained stably, without interruption.
Regarding the regulation of gasoline and oil prices at night, representatives of the Domestic Market Management and Development Department said that this only occurs in some unusual operating periods, not regularly and continuously. This stems from the requirement to closely monitor world price movements according to the provisions of Resolution 36 and then Resolution 55 of the Government on gasoline and oil price management.
Because world gasoline and oil prices fluctuate continuously, operating at the end of the day helps management agencies update gasoline and oil Platts prices in Singapore - the reference price to calculate domestic gasoline and oil prices, thereby calculating the base price more realistically, limiting adverse impacts. At the same time, deploying at night nationwide helps avoid market disruption, limit speculation and hoarding" - Mr. Tuan said.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, during the review process, there was a time when the basic price data was fully available at the end of the day. This is an important basis for determining the upward and downward trends, thereby managing gasoline and oil prices appropriately and closely following market developments.
