Late summer-autumn rice prices are high, Soc Trang farmers hit it big

PHƯƠNG ANH |

Soc Trang - Summer-autumn rice farmers are successful as both prices and productivity are high.

Having just finished harvesting 4 hectares of summer-autumn rice, Mr. Phan Thanh Nhanh in Thanh Tan commune, Thanh Tri district (Soc Trang province) happily said that this crop, his family had a great harvest. The average yield was 6.7 tons/ha, about 300 kg/ha higher than the same period last year. Rice was purchased by traders at the field at 8,500 VND/kg, nearly 1,000 VND/kg higher than at the beginning of the crop.

“The rice epidemic situation has decreased, production costs are low, profits are about 40 million VND/ha or more, about 15 million VND/ha higher than the 2023 summer-autumn rice crop,” Mr. Nhanh informed.

Sharing that joy, ST25 rice growers also had a very successful crop when the yield and selling price were both very high.

Mr. Huynh Van Chin in Long Duc commune, Long Phu district (Soc Trang province) said that with more than 1 hectare of ST25 rice production, the yield is about 9 tons/ha, an increase of 200kg/ha compared to the previous rice crop. Rice is sold at 10,800 VND/kg (2,300 VND/kg higher than the same period). After deducting costs, the profit is about 80 million VND/ha.

"Never before have summer-autumn rice farmers had such high profits as this year," Mr. Chin said excitedly.

The average yield is estimated at nearly 6 tons/ha, an increase of 1.62 tons/ha over the same period last year.

During the past week, rice prices have been maintained at 6,900 - 8,000 VND/kg for regular rice, 7,600 - 8,200 VND/kg for light fragrant rice (200 - 1,100 VND higher than the same period last year) and 8,500 - 10,800 VND/kg for specialty rice (1,000 - 2,000 VND higher than the same period last year). With the current price, farmers earn 15-20% profit.
