Apricot and peach blossoms take to the streets, kicking off the Tet flower market

Thai Nguyen - The central roads in Thai Nguyen City have begun to be filled with Tet flowers. The prices of ornamental plants have increased compared to 2024.

In recent days, all the streets in the center of Thai Nguyen City have been filled with flowers. The 2025 Lunar New Year flower market is bustling as peach and kumquat trees from neighboring localities are brought in for sale.

Recorded by reporters on January 15, in Trung Vuong, Phan Dinh Phung, Gia Sang wards, flowers, kumquats, and peach trees are sold all over the streets. Bonsai kumquats with various shapes are popular with people. The advantages of this type of kumquat are that they are compact, beautiful in shape, and affordable. Meanwhile, ancient peach and kumquat trees are the priority for agencies and businesses to rent for Tet.

Importing more than 50 kumquat trees from Hung Yen to sell in Thai Nguyen, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hoang (Phan Dinh Phung Ward, Thai Nguyen City) said that people's shopping demand has increased this year. Therefore, the atmosphere at peach and kumquat selling points is now very bustling.

"Depending on the needs of customers, there are all kinds of trees from small to large sizes. Small kumquat pots cost from 400,000 to 500,000 VND, large trees cost from 800,000 to 1.2 million VND.

The price of a medium-sized peach tree ranges from 1 to 4 million, and an old tree stump costs tens of millions. This year, people tend to choose bonsai kumquat trees, which are compact and have reasonable prices," said Mr. Hoang.

According to Mr. Hoang, due to the impact of the September floods, many traders in Thai Nguyen had to import peach and kumquat trees from neighboring provinces. Therefore, the prices were higher than in previous years. Orchids and marigolds were also sold in many places.

According to Ms. Thanh Huyen (Thai Nguyen City), flowers are flooding the streets, making the Tet atmosphere closer and closer. Although the price of flowers is high at the beginning of the season, in return there are many choices.

"The streets are starting to get busy. Flowers and ornamental plants are being sold in many places, creating a bustling Tet atmosphere. This year, my family bought a kumquat tree to celebrate Tet. I went early to choose the one I liked the most.

The price compared to 2024 increased from a few tens of thousands to a few hundred thousand but is still in high demand. We have Tet all year round so we have to prepare carefully," said Ms. Huyen.
