In order to respond to saline intrusion along with heat in the dry season 2024 - 2025, avoid affecting agricultural production, mangosteen gardeners are giving fruits in provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region (Mekong Delta) such as Can Tho and Hau Giang that have increased fertilizer, irrigation and water storage in the garden.

It is expected that in mid -May, there will be a harvest, Mr. Tran Van Tuan (Chau Thanh A District, Hau Giang Province), is following local recommendations on saline intrusion and heat intrusion to ensure mangosteen productivity.
Mr. Tuan shared, this year's weather is somewhat disadvantageous, erratic rain and sun, causing care costs to increase from 10-15%. In addition to actively increasing nutrition for gardens, this farmer also actively stores water for irrigation.
"Depending on the region, the level of saline intrusion will be different. I mainly store water with moderate amounts according to the local guidance, enough to meet the needs of irrigation for the garden. Because of pumping, excessive water storage also increases production costs," Mr. Tuan said.
With an area of 3,000 m2 of mangosteen, farmer Nguyen Van Nam (Phong Dien district, Can Tho city), said that since entering the dry season, he had to intensify monitoring and irrigation to supplement water for plants. According to Mr. Nam, the hot sun and saline intrusion have not had a significant impact on mangosteen garden but for peace of mind, this farmer must regularly monitor news and recommendations of the local agriculture sector.
"The impact of saline intrusion in the locality is not too large. Particularly, this year's weather is hot and hot, or appear in the wrong season, creating conditions for pests and diseases to grow, so it must be prevented. Along with the storage of water in the garden, I also supplement feces and pests and diseases in moderate amounts," Mr. Nam shared.

In order to respond to saline penetration peaks in the dry season 2024 - 2025, Can Tho Agriculture will coordinate with departments, branches and localities to continue to closely monitor the information of meteorological, hydrological and water forecasting information (of the National Hydrometeorological Forecast Center, Southern Institute of Irrigation Science; Can Tho Hydrometeorology Station) for timely, accurate and complete information to the people of the people.
From there, ensure the initiative in preventing and combating drought, dehydration, saline intrusion in the city, minimizing damage caused by heat, drought, water shortage, saline intrusion.
According to the newsletter in March and forecast of saline intrusion in the dry season in 2025 in the Mekong Delta region of the Southern Irrigation Science Institute, forecasting from about 15.3 to the end of March, the flow from the upstream to the Mekong Delta increased sharply, saline intrusion in river estuaries fell rapidly.
The Mekong River estuary areas, from 30-40 km from the sea, are likely to appear fresh water regularly, convenient for water to get water. Localities need to take advantage of this time to operate the system of washing systems and maximum water storage into the canal system.
For areas from 25 - 30 km from the sea, there is still the influence of saline intrusion, to prevent risks, so waiting for the fresh water on the river to be stable, the rain appears wide, it will be reduced to the Summer -Autumn crop 2025, especially the area of two Vam Co rivers (forecast until the end of April 2025).
