Science and technology, digital transformation are key driving forces
The 2025 National Power Science and Technology Conference was organized by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and Vietnam Electricity Association (VEEA) on November 28 in Ho Chi Minh City.
EVN's speech shows that the world is entering a period of strong energy transition, focusing on renewable energy and new energy, reducing fossil fuels associated with the development of smart grid. To achieve these goals, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are key driving forces.

One of the goals of the Vietnamese electricity industry is to mobilize all domestic and international resources for power development to ensure adequate, stable, and increasingly high-quality electricity supply with reasonable electricity prices, diversify types of power sources, and increase the proportion of renewable energy sources by 2030 to 28% - 36% and 74% - 75% by 2050.
EVN also proposed a number of solutions such as: Spending enough resources on research and development, building research centers and laboratories; mastering core technologies such as super high-voltage transmission technology, energy storage, automatic control, application of artificial intelligence, developing high-quality scientific and technological human resources through the mechanism of attracting, promoting, retaining talents, training technical and technological talents, etc.
Harmonizing economic efficiency for investors, the state and electricity users
Dr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Institute of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: To meet new development requirements, especially the requirement for double-digit economic growth, it is necessary to prepare for all aspects, especially energy and electricity infrastructure.
According to Mr. Cuong, the adjusted VIII power plan has a number of new approaches such as: Developing external power sources to meet domestic demand, while taking into account the need for electricity exports and new energy production; hoply developing thermal power sources, bringing nuclear power with advanced technology, ensuring high safety into an important base of power, contributing to achieving the Net - zero target by 2050; Maximizing the development of renewable energy sources according to the potential and strengths of each region; Combining with smart grid investment to ensure reliability and quality of power supply services...
Mr. Cuong also recommended the need to develop and perfect legal policies on electricity prices such as: two-component electricity prices for both households consuming electricity and power sources; price of auxiliary services; price frame for all types of power sources.

At the same time, it is necessary to issue a mechanism to encourage the development of solar and wind power sources, especially in the North, taking into account the factor of being close to the loading center, reducing transmission costs, ensuring economic and financial efficiency for investors, the state and electricity users, reviewing and removing obstacles in administrative procedures in investment, developing power projects to ensure progress and quality when implementing projects...
At the conference, delegates also contributed more than 124 million VND to support people affected by recent floods.
