Mr. Nguyen Huu Huong, Chairman and Director of Hai Phong Power Co., Ltd, said that Hai Phong is always proud to be the locality with the first power plant in Vietnam and also the first factory in Indochina since 1892. More specifically, just 70 years ago, May 13, 1955, Hai Phong City was liberated also marked the birth of Hai Phong Power industry (Hai Phong today). Through many ups and downs of history, with the mission of a "pioneer light source", Hai Phong PC has constantly grown, trying to devote his wholeheartedly to the strong development of the port city and the country.
Along with the construction of the banned power plant in 1892, the team of the first electric workers of Hai Phong formed, associated with the birth of the Vietnamese working class, of which, there were Vietnamese electricians. Since taking over in 1955, the city grid has only a design capacity of 5.5 MW. New commercial electricity output is about 10 million kWh/year. Up to now, the ability to supply electricity has reached 3,000 MVA (an increase of 545 times compared to 1955). The commercial electricity output reached nearly 9 billion kW/h (an increase of 900 times compared to 1955). That proves the breakthrough and outstanding development of Hai Phong electricity industry.
Speaking at the celebration, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho praised the achievements that Hai Phong Electricity industry achieved, acknowledging the merits of the generations of Hai Phong electricity industry in the past 70 years, and emphasized that, in the current context, the development of electricity supply infrastructure is one of the four key areas that need to be focused on resources, in order to ensure enough electricity for people and business in the city.
