Identifying limitations to overcome challenges
China is Vietnam's main durian consumer market. In recent times, businesses in your country have paid attention to, connected, and cooperated with Vietnamese businesses to purchase and export durian.
During the trading process, Chinese enterprises pay great attention to the quality of raw material areas, traceability processes and the processing and packaging capacity of durian in Vietnam.
Many Chinese enterprises have even gone to the durian capital of Dak Lak to survey, discuss, and move towards long-term cooperation.
During the visit, Chinese enterprises frankly pointed out the remaining problems of Vietnamese durian.
Ms. Cui Xiaoxia, Director of Xiaoxiang Nana International Trading Joint Stock Company in Beijing (China) said that Vietnamese durian, especially durian from Dak Lak, is being consumed heavily in China.
The quality of durian is quite good, however, recently, heavy rain has caused the quality of durian to decrease. The fruit is shiny and the color does not meet the requirements. She hopes that local management agencies will strengthen quality control before export.
Ms. Cui Xiaoxia also emphasized that the company is actively importing durian from Vietnam to prepare for the Mid-Autumn Festival. However, she is concerned that harvesting during the rainy season can lead to mold or the meat becomes stiff, affecting customer satisfaction.
Mr. Ma Hongjun, General Director of HH Trading Company Yueyazhuang Guangxi, commented that Vietnamese durian may be at the top in quantity in the Chinese market, but the quality needs to be improved further.
According to Mr. Ma Hongjun, Vietnamese durian has a delicious taste, affordable prices and abundant supply. However, it is necessary to focus on food hygiene and safety, traceability, investment in refrigeration technology and brand building.
Mr. Ma Hongjun also emphasized that if Vietnam focuses on improving plant varieties, standardizing harvesting processes and optimizing refrigeration technology, improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese durian in the Chinese market.
No early harvesting, no harvesting when it rains
Mr. Le Anh Trung, Chairman of the Dak Lak Durian Association, said that the locality is entering the main harvest season. However, the rainy weather has affected the quality of the product.
The Association recommends that gardeners and traders should only harvest when the fruit is ripe. Especially on rainy days, you should not harvest to avoid serious consequences for quality.
Mr. Nong Duc Lai - Vietnam Trade Counselor in Beijing (China) said that China is a large consumer market, opening up many opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products, including durian.
However, along with opening the market, China has tightened management and supervision of imported goods, especially in terms of quality standards and food safety.
Chinese authorities have stepped up enforcement of food safety laws, requiring foreign enterprises to complete registration and apply strict sanctions for violations.
Vietnam is one of the major agricultural suppliers to China, but is also among the countries with a high proportion of warned goods.
Despite significant improvements in the product, propaganda work still needs to be strengthened.
To improve quality and meet the needs of the Chinese market, Vietnamese enterprises need to proactively improve production and business processes.
Only when product quality is guaranteed can Vietnam expand its durian export opportunities, affirming its position in the international market.
Dak Lak is one of the localities with the largest durian area in the country. The whole province currently has nearly 40,000 hectares of durian, with an estimated output of about 400,000 tons in 2025.
