According to reports from relevant units, regarding the balancing of electricity supply and demand in the 2025-2030 period, the capacity shortage will continue to occur throughout the 2026-2030 period for the North.
To ensure power supply in the coming period, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has reported to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the policy of importing electricity from China via the 220kV line of Guangxi (China) to supply power to Quang Ninh province. Import plan with maximum capacity of 1,000MW.
Implementing the above policy, Vietnam Electricity Group has assigned the Northern Power Corporation and the National Power Transmission Corporation to improve the capacity of power grid infrastructure to meet the demand for power supply to Quang Ninh province and receive the maximum import capacity from China.
Currently, the Northern Power Corporation and the National Power Transmission Corporation are actively urgently investing in major projects, such as: 220kV Mong Cai transformer station, 220kV Mong Cai line - Hai Ha Industrial Park; Cong Hoa 220kV Substation project and Cong Hoa 220kV line - Cam Pha - Hai Ha branch; 110kV connecting routes after Mong Cai 220kV, Cong Hoa substations; Renovation and upgrading of load capacity of 172kg Mong Duong - Khe Cham - 176kg T500 Quang Ninh and 171kg Mong Duong - XM Cam Pha - 175kg T500 Quang Ninh substations.
At the same time, prepare necessary procedures to be able to implement the investment in the HuangQiao - Mong Cai 220kV line (Hoang Kieu - Mong Cai, section on Vietnam) immediately after the project is approved by competent authorities to be added to the Power Plan VIII, with progress in sync with the Chinese side;
It is expected that the above projects will be completed in 2026.
