The Prime Minister's issuance of Directive No. 10/CT-TTg on electricity saving and rooftop solar power development marks an important milestone, with strategic goals to ensure national energy security. This is not only a macro orientation but also a premise to promote people and businesses to actively switch to clean energy sources.
In Thai Binh ward (Hung Yen province), Mr. Dang Trong Thuy has synchronously installed a system of 30 solar panels with a capacity of 650W for his production workshop from around the beginning of April.
When deciding to spend 150 million VND to invest in a solar power system, Mr. Thuy once pondered the problem of capital recovery. However, after a period of actual operation, initial doubts were replaced by excitement.
The solar panel system has contributed about 25-30% of the electricity used, and monthly costs have decreased significantly compared to before" - Mr. Thuy shared.
Not stopping at the scale of factories, solar power is also being used by many households.
In Ha Dong ward (Hanoi City), Mr. Dang Tien Dien's family also proactively learned about installing rooftop solar power. Right after the hot spell at the end of March, with forecasts for this summer, he decided to invest in a system of 8 620W solar panels on the roof, along with a power storage unit instead of just simply grid-connected. Since then, his family's electricity bill in the past month has decreased significantly, despite having to continuously use cooling equipment.
Mr. Dien said: "With these 8 panels, my family is almost self-sufficient in daily electricity. The biggest advantage is the storage system, which helps essential devices such as lights, fans or refrigerators operate normally even when sudden power outages occur.
This strong shift is not accidental, but the result of the Government's roadmap to promote sustainable clean energy.
At the COP26 conference, Vietnam strongly committed to the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. To concretize this goal, policies and mechanisms to encourage rooftop solar power according to the "self-production, self-consomment" model are being promoted and promulgated, creating a favorable legal corridor for people.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi - analyzed that promoting self-produced and self-consumed solar power is a strategic step that brings many benefits. When households and businesses self-supply energy, the pressure on the national power system will be significantly reduced, especially during peak heat hours when the power grid is often overloaded.
Thanks to the development of technology, the cost of batteries and auxiliary equipment has decreased by about 50%, making access easier, especially for households" - Dr. Tung shared.
He also emphasized that installing solar power needs to be a "reasonable investment" problem. Each household or business when installing needs to base on the actual level of use. It is not necessary to spend a large amount of money to install a high-capacity system if the need is not really necessary.
In addition to economic factors, Dr. Tung also noted legal aspects. Energy shift is an irreversible trend, but safety and compliance with regulations must be ensured. Before installation, people and businesses need to comply with current regulations on notification and registration with state management agencies as well as local electricity units. This not only ensures technical safety for the power grid system but also helps avoid fire and explosion incidents or local overload, while protecting long-term legal rights for users.
