In recent days, the historic flood has caused severe damage to many northern mountainous provinces, many areas were isolated, cities and villages were submerged in water. Military forces, police, authorities and volunteers from all over the country came to support people in flooded areas.
Transporting goods is facing difficulties due to floods and landslides. Transport units are making efforts to operate uninterruptedly and promptly transport goods, especially essential items, to localities.
Ms. Pham Thu Huong, Head of Marketing & Communications Division of Viettel Post Joint Stock Corporation (Viettel Post) said: “We are making efforts to operate without interruption. Up to now, if calculated by province, our operations have not been interrupted. Viettel Post is still operating normally in the provinces. Some provinces have areas that are isolated due to flooding, so we will temporarily stop operating in those areas to ensure the safety of people and postmen.”
“Regarding customers’ goods that are in transit before the storm, in provinces and areas at risk of flooding, we have a plan to elevate the goods and transport them to safe places to avoid rising water. We ensure that the goods are preserved intact and will be delivered as soon as possible.”
Along with the restoration of operations, Viettel Post also proactively supported localities in relief work in areas severely affected by storms and floods. 100% of post offices in 12 provinces affected by storms and floods are still open to receive incoming and outgoing goods and necessities from organizations and individuals, supporting people in flooded areas.
This unit is also responsible for the entire transportation and direct delivery of necessities to provinces in the storm and flood areas. In the past 5 days, Viettel Post has connected nearly 3,000 vehicles, successfully transporting more than 7,500 tons of goods and necessities to provinces and cities directly affected by storm Yagi such as Quang Ninh, Ha Long, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh...
“In addition, our postmen in flooded areas are currently participating in rescue work and providing relief support to people,” a representative of Viettel Post shared.
Similarly, at Vietnam Express Delivery and Trading Joint Stock Company (Megapost), a company representative said that Megapost is still operating normally in the provinces. However, for some isolated areas, Megapost must temporarily suspend operations due to inability to access these areas, and to ensure the safety of the company's staff and the people.
In particular, Vietnam Post Corporation has just announced that from September 11, it will waive shipping fees for relief goods to 12 northern provinces and cities that are suffering heavy damage from storm No. 3. People can directly send relief goods (consumer goods, necessities, medicine, relief items, etc.) at Vietnam Post Offices nationwide.
Vietnam Post said that relief goods will be transported by Vietnam Post to the Red Cross Societies of the following provinces and cities: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Yen Bai, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Son La, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang for distribution and support to people.
