Binh Minh Cooperative is cooperating with more than 1,000 farmers to produce over 1,420 hectares of pepper according to the value chain, with an output of over 3,030 tons/year. Of which, there are 250 farming households with 484 hectares, with an output of 680 tons/year certified by Rainforest Alliance.
Mr. Le Anh Son, Director of Binh Minh Production - Trade - Service Cooperative, Ea Po Commune, Cu cut District, shared that in recent years, traders have purchased pepper from Dak Nong at higher prices than other provinces.
The reason why pepper prices in Dak Nong are bought at high prices is mainly because people focus on applying science and techniques to care for pepper systematically.
In particular, farmers focus on harvesting, drying, and preserving agricultural products, contributing to improving product quality and selling at higher prices.
"We instruct farmers on sustainable pepper production techniques to improve product quality and avoid price pressure. We also inform about the pepper product market, train and coach farmers on sales skills, thereby helping farmers sell at good prices" - Mr. Son shared.
In addition, properly harvesting, drying, and preserving will greatly contribute to improving the value and quality of Dak Nong pepper.
Mr. Pham Ngoc's family in Dak R'lap district is harvesting 2 hectares of pepper. Mr. Ngoc's family attaches great importance to properly harvesting and preserving it. Because this is a stage that has a big impact on the quality of pepper products.
According to Mr. Ngoc, his family picked pepper when the plants had a high rate of ripe fruit. After harvesting, he dried pepper when it was moist, packed it in packaging and stored it in a separate warehouse until the day of sale.
"Thanks to good drying and preservation, my family's pepper products are always sold at a bonus price of about 3,000 VND/kg" - Mr. Ngoc affirmed.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province, pepper is one of the province's main crops.
Currently, the whole province has about 34,000 hectares of pepper, leading the country in terms of area, with an average yield of about 2.4 tons/ha and a total output of about 70,000 tons.
Also according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong, the Vietnamese pepper industry is shifting from expanding the area to improving quality. The industry also focuses on deep processing, diversifying products and markets to penetrate deep into the global supply chain.
In Dak Nong, the locality is implementing green, sustainable agricultural production for the pepper industry. The province's goal is to improve economic efficiency, increase product value and build a brand.
Currently, the whole province has about 3,154 hectares of pepper recognized by international and domestic certification organizations as meeting standards.
