People panic because of increased electricity bills

The family of Ms. Ngo Thi Cam (in Hac Thanh ward, Thanh Hoa city) said that in May 2025, the family used up 273 kWh for more than 700,000 VND. However, in early July 2025, the family received an electricity bill for June, with a consumption output of 555 kWh, equivalent to more than 1.7 million VND, more than double compared to May.
To be honest, the increase in electricity bills in June is somewhat understandable for the family, because household electrical appliances such as air conditioners, fans, etc. work more. However, the increase in electricity bill from 700,000 VND to more than 1.7 million VND also made the family panic. We will continue to monitor, if next month the electricity bill has unusual developments, the family will have an opinion for the electricity industry to check again" - Ms. Cam shared.
Like Ms. Cam's family, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa's family (at 359 Trinh Tung Street, Hac Thanh Ward) consumed 493 kWh for 1.5 million VND in June 2025. Compared to May, the electricity bill her family had to pay increased by 350,000 VND. This also made the family wonder more or less.
It is known that in recent days, information has also appeared frequently on social networks about people panicking and wondering about unusually high electricity prices. This has a significant impact on the finances of households, especially those with economic difficulties.
Why is the electricity bill increasing?
Explaining the high electricity bill in June, a representative of Thanh Hoa Power Company said that the main reason is the increased demand for electrical equipment (especially air conditioners, fans, washing machines, etc.).
In addition, the 4.8% electricity price increase adjustment (excluding VAT) just approved on May 9, 2025 is also part of the reason for the increase in electricity bills, but this is not the main reason. The main reason is still the fact that people use many devices for a long time during the hot season.
"Because of the increased electricity bill, many people have posted information about this issue on social networks, then created a widespread effect. Our electricity industry has grasped the information and will have a thorough explanation for people to understand. For families who are not informed and still have questions, the electricity industry is ready to receive and conduct specific inspections" - said a representative of Thanh Hoa Power Company.
Mr. Hoang Duc Hau - Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Power Company - informed that according to recorded data, the total electricity consumption of the whole province in May was 776 million kWh. In June, the output reached 866 million kWh, an increase of 11.5% and compared to the same period in June 2024, an increase of 15.1%.
In June 2025, there will be 3 hot spells with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, leading to a sudden increase in customers' electricity demand, especially in households. In addition, June also marks the beginning of a long summer vacation for students, combined with hot weather forcing them to use air conditioners to lower temperatures, along with other cooling equipment such as fans, refrigerators... operating continuously and for a long time.
To proactively control electricity bills and use electricity economically, reasonably and effectively during the hot season, Thanh Hoa Power Company recommends customers: set air conditioners at temperatures from 2628 degrees Celsius, combine the use of fans and close doors to prevent heat loss; limit the simultaneous use of many large-power electrical equipment from 13:00 and 20:00 on hot days; turn off equipment when not in use and take advantage of natural light during the day.
