According to Hanoi Power Corporation (EVN Hanoi), June 2025 recorded a clear increase in temperature in Hanoi, with an average temperature increase of 2 to 6°C compared to May. In particular, during the peak hot summer days in early and mid-June, the outdoor temperature reaches 41°C, the actual temperature even reaches 52°C.
Prolonged high temperatures not only affect daily life but also increase the need for electricity, especially cooling equipment such as air conditioners, fans and refrigerators. This situation has caused the electricity consumption in the whole city to increase sharply, especially in residential areas.
"In June 2025, the average daily electricity output in Hanoi will reach more than 90 million kWh, an increase of 12% over the same period in 2024. Total output in June reached approximately 2,700 million kWh, of which the peak was recorded on June 2 with 110.9 million kWh - the highest since the beginning of the year.
The group of customers in the residential consumption management segment alone accounted for more than 59.5% of total output, an increase of 1.15 times compared to May. This reflects the direct impact of the weather on electricity use in households.
In particular, when students' summer vacation coincides with a peak of hot weather, it leads to the time to use air conditioners and electrical equipment continuously throughout the day and night," EVN Hanoi stated.
According to EVN Hanoi, high temperatures not only increase the frequency of electricity use but also cause cooling equipment to consume more energy to maintain operational efficiency. When the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor is large, the air conditioner must operate continuously, with few outages, leading to increased electricity consumption even though the usage period does not change.
Thus, the amount of electricity consumed increases according to the law every year during the summer months and children have a summer vacation at home, causing the total electricity bill in June 2025 that households have to pay to increase compared to the previous month.
In that situation, EVN Hanoi recommends that customers proactively monitor their family's daily electricity consumption through the customer care ecosystem of the business.
Customers should regularly check electricity output, set warning thresholds when exceeding normal consumption to promptly adjust electricity usage behavior.
Especially in the summer, people should use air conditioners at a reasonable temperature (from 26-28°C), combined with fans, turn off equipment when not necessary and limit the use of many large-capacity devices at the same time during peak hours from 12:00 - 15:00 and from 22:00 - 24:00 every day.
"Economic and efficient use of electricity not only helps reduce electricity bills but also contributes to reducing pressure on the national power system, especially during the peak of the hot season," EVN stated.
