According to the report of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment (NNMT), in the past time, the work of issuing, managing, inspecting, supervising and using planting area codes and packaging facility codes in the province still has some shortcomings and limitations, especially in the work of reviewing and updating information, managing dossiers, post-issuance of codes and supervising the maintenance of conditions according to regulations. The document is issued by the Provincial People's Committee to promptly overcome the above shortcomings and limitations.
Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to review and rectify the work of receiving, appraising and processing dossiers; strictly implement the receipt, making receipt slips, handing over dossiers, determining the time of receipt and settlement time; strictly control the components of dossiers, explanatory content, actual inspection minutes and documents proving technical conditions before issuing codes,...
Along with that, the Department must strengthen guidance and control of the use of planting area codes, packaging facility codes in the entire chain from production, purchasing, preliminary processing, packaging to export; control the use of code information on dossiers, goods labels and related documents.
For the Provincial Inspectorate, the Department of Industry and Trade, and the Department of Science and Technology, according to their assigned functions and tasks, coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to strengthen the issuance and management of planting area codes and packaging facility codes in the province; proactively advise and propose to the Provincial People's Committee to handle and overcome contents within the scope and field of management.
In particular, the People's Committees of communes and wards shall take the lead in reviewing and updating the actual situation of planting areas and packaging establishments licensed with codes in the area, especially changes in area, ownership, crop structure and operating status; coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to review and handle cases of data shortage, errors, duplication or codes that are no longer appropriate.

As Lao Dong newspaper has reported, Dong Thap province possesses outstanding strengths in agriculture, currently considered the "fruit kingdom" of the country with a total fruit tree area of about 150,000 hectares.
However, this is also a locality with spontaneous cultivation areas belonging to the top group in the Mekong Delta, especially for durian. The situation of expanding areas outside the planning forces management agencies to review and tighten the planting area code to prevent the wave of massive development, ensure quality and traceability for export.
Also according to the Plan to implement the issuance and management of planting area codes and packaging facility codes in Dong Thap province in the period 2026 - 2030, the province will organize the establishment and new issuance of planting area codes for 100% of areas eligible for code issuance.
At that time, the total area expected to be newly granted in the period 2026 - 2030 is 159,779 ha, including: rice, sticky rice 52,214 ha; perennial crops (fruit trees, coconuts) 89,737 ha; crops 17,829 ha.
By 2030, 100% of preliminary processing, processing, and packaging establishments of agricultural products serving export in the province that meet the conditions according to regulations will be granted and manage packaging establishment codes.
