According to Lao Dong, this year, in the Ho Chi Minh City market, in addition to the familiar brands of cakes every Mid-Autumn Festival, there have appeared many types of "3 no" cakes such as no place of manufacture, no expiration date, no ingredients... and cakes of foreign origin such as mochi moon cakes, egg cakes...
These types of cakes appear everywhere at stalls in traditional markets and are chosen by many customers because of their eye-catching appearance and low price.
“The cakes are homemade for the Mid-Autumn Festival, so the selling price will be adjusted to suit customers so that everyone can enjoy them. My family makes and sells them every year, so you can rest assured about the quality,” said Ms. Le Van, a small trader on the side of Nguyen Tri Phuong Market (District 10).
Although authorities have continuously increased inspections to promptly detect and handle violations of food safety for moon cakes, many people still ignore them.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department, in recent years, the moon cake market in Ho Chi Minh City has been very diverse in types, eye-catching designs, reasonable prices, imported through official channels, unofficial channels and produced by individuals by hand, favored by many consumers.
Identifying food safety risks for these types of moon cakes, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department has directed teams to strengthen local management to promptly detect and strictly handle violations.
The Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City also coordinated with departments, People's Committees of districts and Thu Duc City to strengthen food safety work during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
