Explosive purchasing power, Ao Dai shops reap bumper profits during Tet

Can Tho – The trend of wearing Ao Dai to take Tet photos has boosted the demand for tailoring and renting Ao Dai. Shops selling this item have also enjoyed a bumper crop.

Spend millions to make Tet ao dai

In recent years, the trend of taking Tet photos with Ao Dai has increased sharply every spring. To have beautiful photos, many people have spent time and effort to choose Ao Dai that suits themselves and the Tet atmosphere.

Taking photos at Ninh Kieu wharf, Anh Ngoc (student, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) shared that this was the first time she wore an ao dai to take photos for Tet. Instead of buying a new one, the female student chose to rent an ao dai at stores because it suited her needs and finances.

“Currently, there are many services that rent Ao Dai with prices ranging from 80,000 - 150,000 VND/set and support additional accessories, which is very convenient. This Tet, I chose for myself a modernized Ao Dai with a red color that brings the bustling atmosphere of spring. When I put on the traditional costume of the nation, I feel both proud and a little bit looking forward to beautiful photos,” Anh Ngoc shared.

To prepare for the Tet photo shoot, Ms. Nguyen Dan Thanh (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) spent millions to order ao dai a month in advance. The reason is that Ms. Thanh wants to own ao dai according to her own preferences.

“I ordered two ao dai for nearly 1.5 million VND. Although it is much more expensive than ready-made products, I can choose the fabric and style according to my preferences. This is not only an outfit for taking Tet photos, but I also want to use it on other occasions,” said Ms. Thanh.

Strong revenue growth

Ms. Le Thu Huong, who runs a tailor shop in Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City), said that in recent years, the trend of taking Tet photos with Ao Dai has caused purchasing power at the shop to increase sharply. Since November, the tailor shop has received many orders for Ao Dai with prices ranging from 500,000 - 1,500,000 VND/set, depending on the design. Up to now, the tailor shop only sells a few ready-made Ao Dai models.

“The number of orders for Ao Dai this year is higher than last year, and revenue is estimated to have increased by about 30%. My tailors and I have to work continuously from morning to late at night to deliver to customers on time. In addition to traditional designs, the tailor shop has also updated some new fabric colors and more modern designs to meet the increasing needs of customers,” said Ms. Huong.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Huy - a business owner of ao dai sales and rental services (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) - said that since the beginning of December, the purchasing power of his store has increased sharply because many people tend to take early Tet photos.

“Ao dai designs from traditional to modern are all popular. Compared to buying new ones, many people, especially young people, tend to rent because they are cheaper. A person can rent 2-3 sets for the same cost as 1 new set of ao dai. From now until mid-January, purchasing power is expected to explode even more, with estimated revenue increasing by 30-40%,” said Mr. Huy.

According to Mr. Huy, along with the strong increase in consumer demand, the services of selling and renting Ao Dai have also flourished. To compete, stores must constantly update new trends as well as focus on accompanying accessories such as crowns, brooches, fans, flowers, etc. to attract customers.
