Foreign business needs
The Can Tho City Investment - Trade Promotion and Exhibition Center said that before the Dialogue between the government and enterprises in the city in 2024, the unit coordinated with the Department of Planning and Investment, the Department of Industry and Trade, and the Management Board of Export Processing and Industrial Zones (EPZs) of the city to visit and work with 19 foreign-invested enterprises in the area.
The unit also sent a survey to the business community to grasp information about difficulties and obstacles in the production and business process. Through the survey, opinions were mostly related to input factors of businesses and labor resources were one of the issues that received the most attention.
According to businesses, the Mekong Delta region in general and Can Tho in particular have an abundant unskilled labor force but the source of high-quality human resources is quite limited. Businesses have to recruit labor from other places.
Mr. Le Van Dong - General Director of Cuu Long Fruit Garden Joint Stock Company - shared that as a foreign-invested enterprise, the unit needs many high-quality workers, especially personnel who can use foreign languages. Instead of having to proactively connect with training facilities, Mr. Dong hopes to have support from relevant agencies and units.
“Agencies and sectors can organize meetings between training centers, universities and businesses so that we can present our labor needs as well as create relationships with training centers and universities,” said Mr. Dong.
Connecting the market with training facilities
At the recent Dialogue between the Government and Enterprises in Can Tho City in 2024, the Management Board of the City's Export Processing and Industrial Zones said that the unit has signed a coordination charter with universities. If companies have any needs in any field, major or foreign language, the Board will support the connection.
Regarding the training of high-quality human resources to supply all fields in need, Mr. Le Thanh Tam - Director of the Department of Planning and Investment of Can Tho City - said that this work has been carried out quite a lot by the city in the past time. In the near future, Mr. Tam proposed that the City People's Committee direct the connection with the market and labor training facilities. On that basis, the needs and types of labor market transformation, the industries that need high-quality workers, and support for businesses will be determined.
According to Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc He, the city has assigned the Department of Science and Technology to coordinate with local universities to train high-quality human resources. In particular, the city is also focusing on building a concentrated Information Technology Park of more than 20 hectares in the area associated with training high-quality human resources.
At the Dialogue between the Government and Enterprises in Can Tho City in 2024 held on December 13, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc He assigned Department Directors, Heads of specialized agencies of the City People's Committee and People's Committees of districts to maintain organizing dialogues between their units and enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in the area at least twice a year.
Thereby, integrating with the propaganda work of the city's and the country's socio-economic development strategies, disseminating new laws, circulars, and instructions, helping businesses have conditions to properly implement and promptly resolve arising difficulties and problems.
