Vinh Long - The province is reviewing and handling long-term projects, prioritizing capable investors, accelerating progress, and avoiding waste.

Review each project, strictly handle cases of prolonged delays

Information from Vinh Long Department of Industry and Trade said that the province is reviewing all wind power projects, classifying them according to legal status, implementation progress and investor capacity, thereby determining appropriate handling directions for each project.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of Vinh Long Department of Industry and Trade, the locality currently has 15 wind power plants in operation, with a total capacity of about 650MW, of which 2 plants are only partially operating.

In 2025, wind power plants produced more than 1.52 billion kWh, with a production value of about 2,994 billion VND. In the first 8 months of 2026, production reached about 1.19 billion kWh, with a value of about 2,261 billion VND.

Besides the operating plants, Vinh Long also has 18 wind power projects that have been granted investment policies, are carrying out legal procedures, investment and construction, with a total capacity of about 1,243MW.

Mr. Tuan said that the projects are grouped for monitoring and handling. Projects under construction continue to be supported; projects that still have problems but are likely to be implemented will be coordinated to remove them in a timely manner.

For long-term projects, the province will determine the handling time, assess the causes, responsibilities and actual capacity of the investor. The extension must be linked to the ability to implement in the near future.

The province has terminated the operation of wind power plant No. 4, opened space to consider adjusting boundaries, creating conditions for the deployment of Hai Phong 1 and Hai Phong 2; handled projects that do not meet requirements.

Do not let the project be prolonged causing waste

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Van Lau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee said that renewable energy is a potential sector, making an important contribution to economic development and the province's growth goals. Therefore, the handling of projects must be carried out drastically and in accordance with regulations.

Regarding projects that are being implemented well, have favorable conditions and the ability to be completed soon, Mr. Lau requested sectors to continue to monitor, support, remove difficulties, accelerate progress, and soon put the project into operation.

Regarding projects with obstacles but capable and responsible investors, Mr. Lau requested functional agencies to proactively coordinate within their authority, remove difficulties, and create conditions for the project to continue to be implemented.

Regarding the group of prolonged projects, it is necessary to clearly define the handling time, objectively assess the responsibility and capacity of investors, and advise on a definitive solution. Do not let the project be prolonged, not implemented, causing waste of resources," Mr. Lau emphasized.

According to the direction, projects that have not been deposited and do not meet the conditions for extension must be handled according to regulations. For projects facing site clearance problems, functional agencies need to clearly identify the causes to have appropriate solutions.

The province requests to improve the quality of investor selection, technically assess financial capacity, experience, responsibility and actual implementation capacity, and limit prolonged project delays.

For projects implemented until 2030, Mr. Lau requested to complete dossiers, build criteria, selection councils, organize bidding in accordance with regulations, and effectively exploit resources.
