Renewable energy expands the space for green economic development in Vinh Long

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - Renewable energy is expanding the development potential of the marine economy, industry, logistics and tourism towards green and sustainable development.

Exploiting advantages to develop renewable energy

With the advantages of the sea, wind sources, solar radiation and abundant biomass, Vinh Long has many conditions to develop renewable energy. Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said that the province has many advantages to develop this field.

With a coastline of more than 130km, convenient transportation and wind and solar potential, the province has great room to develop large-scale renewable energy projects, associated with the marine economy," Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan said.

Currently, Vinh Long has more than 5,400MW of commercially operated power sources, including thermal power, wind power, solar power and more than 4,500 rooftop solar power systems, contributing to ensuring stable supply for the national power system.

Regarding renewable energy alone, the province has 15 wind power plants with a capacity of 650.5MW, 2 solar power projects reaching 189MW and a development orientation of nearly 6,500MW. Wind power plays a key role, along with a synchronously invested 0.4-500kV transmission system.

Truong Long Hoa ward is emerging as an area with many wind power projects, and also owns Ba Dong beach, mangrove forests, historical and cultural relics and spiritual destinations, creating conditions to combine clean energy with tourism development.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nhan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Truong Long Hoa ward said that wind power projects V1-1, V1-2 and V1-3 have been commercially operated, supplementing clean electricity sources and opening up new development directions for the coastal area.

“Wind turbines in the middle of the sea not only create economic and environmental value but also become landscape highlights, contributing to promoting the local image,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Nhan.

Forming a green energy value chain

Not only creating clean electricity sources, renewable energy also expands opportunities for industrial, logistics and tourism development. Wind power projects can become a product to visit, combining Ba Dong beach, mangrove forest, historical destination and Dinh An Economic Zone.

Representative of Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE Corporation), Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Nhat Hanh - Project Development Director - assessed that the coastal area has stable wind conditions, high exploitation efficiency, and there is still much room for wind power development. The enterprise continues to implement new projects.

The V1-3 wind power plant has been commercially operating since 2021, with an average output of about 150-160 million kWh/year, reliability reaching 98-99%. To ensure progress, it is necessary to remove obstacles in terms of land, investment procedures, land and transmission infrastructure," Ms. Hanh said.

Vinh Long is implementing 18 wind power projects with a total capacity of about 1,200MW, 25MW biomass power and 24,000 tons of green hydrogen/year; and at the same time inviting investment in 27 renewable energy projects over 3,000MW, contributing to the development of supporting industries, logistics and attracting high-quality capital flows.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Quynh Thien said that renewable energy is not only a source of electricity but also a driving force of the green economy, creating links between industries in the circular economy model.

To realize the goal of becoming a renewable energy center of the Mekong Delta region, the province continues to implement the motto of the government accompanying businesses, proactively removing difficulties, completing marine space planning and improving the investment environment," Mr. Thien emphasized.

With a new development space, connecting sea advantages with renewable energy, logistics, industry and tourism is expected to help Vinh Long form a green value chain, improve competitiveness and contribute to the goal of ensuring national energy security.
