E10 gasoline and the transition to biofuel

Experts believe that the deployment of E10 gasoline is expected to reduce emissions, expand biofuels and promote green energy ecosystems.

Paving the way for green fuel ecosystems

Shifting green energy, developing renewable energy, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and improving energy self-sufficiency are inevitable trends globally.

Speaking at the Workshop "Energy Transition - Driving Force for Double-Number Growth Goals" organized by Lao Dong Newspaper in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade on June 9, Dr. Dao Duy Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - said that in the overall energy transition process, the deployment of E10 biofuel from June 1 is a solution of the transition process, a specific and practical step on green transition in fuel use.

E10 gasoline is not a destination, it is just the beginning and we need to recognize that the greatest meaning of E10 is not only the 10% ethanol ratio in each liter of gasoline, but more importantly, E10 has opened up development opportunities for the new fuel production industry - a chain of raw material value, production, supply, and use of fuel that is greener, cleaner, and has higher added value for the economy" - Mr. Dao Duy Anh emphasized.

According to Mr. Dao Duy Anh, the initial results in the first days of implementation nationwide from June 1 to now have shown that the market is basically stable, supply is guaranteed, and people are receiving it more positively than initially predicted.

In the coming time, our task is not only to successfully implement the E10 gasoline roadmap, but more importantly to continue to develop an innovative ecosystem in the energy sector, strongly develop green energy sources, promote sustainable production and consumption models, improve the localization rate in the energy supply chain and gradually develop new industries based on the advantages of the green transition process" - Mr. Duy Anh emphasized.

According to Mr. Dao Duy Anh, if the green growth goals are well implemented, energy transition will become a new driving force for growth, helping to improve labor productivity, increase business competitiveness and reduce carbon emissions. This is also the foundation for Vietnam to participate more effectively in the green technology race, towards the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.

Opening up more outlets for agricultural products and the processing industry

Energy transition is not only an environmental issue but also an important factor in national competitiveness. According to Dr. Tran Van The - Chairman of the Board of Directors of INDEL Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, when talking about energy transition, it is necessary to pay special attention to the roadmap factor.

Vietnam currently still has more than 70 million motorbikes and millions of cars using internal combustion engines. The process of transportation electrification is an inevitable trend, but cannot happen overnight. In the coming years, gasoline and oil will still be an important fuel source for road traffic, logistics, production and life. Therefore, the issue is not to immediately eliminate gasoline and oil, but to gradually reduce emissions in the existing fuel sector itself. Therefore, the deployment of E10 gasoline will create a foundation for emission reduction and deployment of biofuels" - Dr. Tran Van The emphasized.

Besides the goal of reducing emissions, Dr. Tran Van The assessed that the development of bio-gasoline also has socio-economic significance. If there is a stable policy, the ethanol fuel industry can create more output for agricultural products such as cassava, sugarcane, corn; promote the bio-processing industry; contribute to reducing part of the dependence on imported gasoline and oil; and create more jobs in the agricultural and supporting industries. Bio-gasoline is not only an energy solution, but can also become a link in the strategy of developing agriculture - industry - energy in a sustainable direction.

To develop bio-gasoline sustainably, Dr. Tran Van The suggested that it is necessary to build a clear, stable and highly predictable bio-gasoline development roadmap. Second, there should be a mechanism to ensure sustainable ethanol supply. The development of ethanol should be linked to farmer - cooperative - factory - distribution enterprise linkages, avoiding the situation of raw materials being broken or prices fluctuating too strongly. Third, it is necessary to improve technical standards and quality control mechanisms. There should be clear regulations on fuel ethanol, blending ratio, preservation, transportation, quality inspection, responsibilities of each stage and sanctions for violations.
