The Prime Minister has just issued Decision No. 453 dated March 18, 2026 approving the Project to build smart border gates at Kim Thanh road bridge customs clearance and Ban Vuoc customs clearance at Lao Cai international border gate.
The project aims to modernize management, inspection, and supervision activities at border gates on the basis of strong application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), big data (Big Data), 5G network and automated means of transport.

Thereby, improving customs clearance capacity, reducing logistics costs, limiting goods congestion, and creating a favorable environment for import and export activities.
The goal by 2030 is to double the transportation capacity of goods through two customs clearance routes, reduce logistics costs by 20-30%, and total import and export turnover reach about 9 billion USD.

The project is implemented from the second quarter of 2026 in two phases. Phase 1 focuses on completing institutions, infrastructure, technology and selecting investors; phase 2 organizes operation, expands the logistics system and continues to complete the smart border gate model.
Resources for implementation include the state budget combined with mobilization of socialization. The Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee is assigned to preside over the organization of implementation, coordinate with relevant ministries, sectors and the Chinese side to ensure synchronization and efficiency.
