Exports reached 300 billion USD, up 16%
Many sources show that, although not officially announced, it is estimated that in the first 9 months of 2024, goods exports will reach 300 billion USD, an increase of 16% over the same period last year.
Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade - said: In the first 9 months of 2024, the items with high export turnover were computers, electronic products and components estimated at 52.75 billion USD, up 27.3%; phones and components estimated at 41.78 billion USD, up 6.9%; textiles and garments estimated at 27.35 billion USD, up 9.0%; footwear estimated at 16.6 billion USD, up 12.9%; wood and wood products estimated at 11.61 billion USD, up 20.7%; seafood estimated at 7.23 billion USD, up 9.5%; vegetables and fruits estimated at 5.67 billion USD, up 34.7%.
"In particular, there are 7 groups of goods with export turnover of over 10 billion USD, including: Machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts; Phones and components; Computers, electronic products and components; footwear; textiles; wood and wood products; means of transport and spare parts. There are 11 groups of goods with export turnover of over 5 billion USD and 31 groups of goods with export turnover of over 1 billion USD" - Mr. Tran Thanh Hai informed.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), in the past 9 months, the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached over 46 billion USD, up 21%, of which, agricultural product exports reached 24.85 billion USD, up 27.7%; livestock 376 million USD, up 3.8%; aquatic products 7.2 billion USD, up 9.5%; forestry products 12.6 billion USD, up 20.3% over the same period last year.
"For coffee alone, the export value reached 4.37 billion USD, an increase of 39.6%. Rice export reached 43.3 billion USD, an increase of 23.5%" - source from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports continued to set a record in the past 9 months, surpassing the 5.6 billion USD mark, up nearly 34% over the same period last year.Fruit and vegetable exports in the first 9 months of 2024 were equal to the turnover of the whole year of 2023 and will increase sharply in the last quarter of this year.
"Fruit and vegetable exports are likely to surpass the 6 billion USD mark," said Mr. Vu Tuan Anh - CEO of GLE Company.
According to the Directorate of Customs, in the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnam's pepper exports reached over 200,000 tons, worth more than 1 billion USD (while the whole year of 2023 only reached 912 million USD). The value of pepper exports increased by nearly 47% over the same period last year.
Efforts to boost production and achieve economic goals
In fact, storm No. 3 has severely affected the agriculture of the northern provinces. Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and localities are making efforts to stabilize production and complete export orders soon.
Mr. Trieu Van Luc - Deputy Director of the Department of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that in order to achieve and exceed the target of exporting wood and forest products in 2024 (the plan is 15.2 billion USD, of which wood and wood products are over 14.2 billion USD, an increase of about 6% compared to 2023 - PV), the entire forestry sector is focusing on overcoming the consequences caused by storm No. 3, promptly supporting units and enterprises producing forestry, processing and exporting wood and forest products that were damaged to quickly stabilize production.
In particular, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the entire industry are continuing to support businesses to improve their capacity to proactively respond to and resolve trade competition cases, minimizing the negative impacts caused by lawsuits. Organizing trade fairs and exhibitions, investment promotion to promote and introduce products, search for and expand consumption markets for wood and forestry products.
According to economic experts, in the current period, to stably grow economic indicators, provinces not affected by storm No. 3 are trying to speed up to compensate for the difficulties of provinces affected by the storm.
"HCMC, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa... are provinces with many industrial parks, export processing zones, many large factories, modern livestock farm systems... need to accelerate more, to compensate for aquaculture areas in Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong... that were heavily damaged by storms" - Mr. Vu Tuan Anh - Chairman of JCI Vietnam 2022 commented.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien also affirmed: The agriculture and rural development sector is making efforts to overcome and is determined to complete the export target assigned by the Government (54-55 billion USD).
Sharing with Lao Dong, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of Vinafruid - affirmed: "By the end of September 2024, fruit and vegetable exports had reached 5.6 billion USD, and in the remaining 3 months, they will reach 1.5 billion USD. Thus, the whole year of 2024, fruit and vegetable exports are likely to reach 7 billion USD."
Overall assessment of the export picture for the remaining months of 2024 nationwide, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai is optimistic: Exports are at a good growth rate.
According to Director of the General Statistics Office (Department of Planning and Investment of Ho Chi Minh City) Nguyen Khac Hoang, the production and business situation in the last quarter of 2024 is optimistic, exports continue to improve as currently, many enterprises said they have stable orders from now until the end of 2024, some orders even last until the first quarter of 2025.
