4 common reasons why automatic cars vibrate when accelerating

Cát Tiên |

Automatic cars vibrating when accelerating are not only uncomfortable but can also be a warning sign of many damages that need early inspection.

The smooth operation of automatic cars is an advantage highly appreciated by many users. However, if the car shows signs of slow acceleration, vibration or strong jerking when changing gears, the car owner should not be subjective.

According to a technician at Ninety Eight Auto Repair, Maintenance and Care Center (Cat Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City), this may be a sign that one or more systems on the car are having problems and need to be checked soon.

One of the common manifestations is that the car has a lag when accelerating. When the driver accelerates, the car reacts slower than normal before accelerating. Many people still continue to use it because they think the car is still working.

However, this phenomenon is often an initial sign of damage and if prolonged, it can increase repair costs.

If the lag is clearly visible when shifting gears, the automatic transmission is one of the first parts to be checked.

After a period of use, the gearbox oil may degrade, the oil pressure is no longer stable, or the electromagnetic valves, clutch, and some internal details are worn, making the shifting process no longer smooth. At that time, the car may experience light or strong jerking each time you change gears.

In more severe cases, the engine can increase the speed but the car accelerates slowly or the gearbox turns on late.

When the gearbox catches the appropriate gear, the car may jerk forward strongly. This is a sign that the gearbox or gear control system may be malfunctioning and needs to be checked soon to avoid more serious damage.

In addition to the gearbox, the fuel system is also a common cause. After a long period of use, the injection needle may stick with sediment, causing the amount of fuel injected into the combustion chamber to be uneven. When the engine needs a lot of fuel to accelerate but is not fully supplied, the car will experience throttle, vibration or jerking.

For gasoline engines, the ignition system also needs to be checked. Damage to the spark plug or ignition coil (mobin) can cause one or more cylinders to burn fuel ineffectively, causing the engine to vibrate, lose the engine, accelerate poorly or jerk, especially when the car accelerates or climbs a slope.

Another part that also greatly affects acceleration is the electronic throttle and throttle position sensor and throttle foot position sensor. These sensors send signals to the engine control unit (ECU), from which the ECU calculates and controls the throttle opening according to operating requirements.

If the sensor operates inaccurately or the accelerator bubble sticks dirty, the control mechanism is jammed, the ECU will receive the wrong signal or control incorrectly, causing the car to react slowly to the acceleration pedal, creating a feeling of slow acceleration and vibration.

In addition, dirty or congested fuel filters can also reduce pressure and fuel flow to the engine. When the supply does not meet the operating needs, the engine will operate unstablely, especially in situations requiring rapid acceleration.

Because the phenomenon of car scratches may originate from many different causes, comprehensive inspection is necessary instead of just replacing one part as speculated.

The technician recommends that the car owner should take the car to the garage for inspection using specialized diagnostic equipment, combined with actual test drives to accurately determine the fault of the gearbox, fuel system, ignition system, sensor and related parts.
