According to Mr. Tran Minh Tien - lecturer of Automotive Technology, Dung Quat College of Technology (Quang Ngai), the cam girder (cam belt) has the task of synchronizing movement between the crankshaft and cam axle, thereby maintaining the correct correlation between the movement of the piston and the time of pump opening and closing.
When the wire is broken or loss of drive capacity, this synchronization is broken. With some engines, the piston can hit the throttle, causing the throttle to bend, break the fuse, damage the piston and internal components of the engine.
Degraded orange curoa vines pose a risk of breaking
According to Mr. Tien, during use, the orange corrugated iron is affected by temperature, friction and material aging. Signs such as cracks, cracks, wear, or deformation may indicate that the corrugated iron has deteriorated.
However, you should not just rely on the surface condition to assess the lifespan of the wire, because the wire can also be damaged due to overdue use, oil contamination, high temperatures or related drive parts having problems.
When the cam bearing cable breaks, the cam shaft loses its connection to the crankshaft and is no longer driven in the correct phase, while the crankshaft can continue to rotate. At that time, the piston and cylinder disengage.
The engine can be severely damaged when the cord breaks.
The level of damage depends on the design of each engine. With interference-type engines, i.e., the path of the piston and cylinder can intersect when out of sync, the piston can hit the open cylinder.
This collision can bend the cylinder or damage parts of the carburetor such as the fuselage, fuselage, and related parts. In serious cases, the piston can also be dented, cracked, or surface damaged.
Conversely, some engines are designed to avoid the intersection between the piston and the throttle, so the consequences may be lighter. Therefore, not all cases of cut-off camcorder cables lead to engine damage at the same level.
Damage also depends on the engine speed at the time the wire broke and the condition of the internal parts. If a collision occurs between the piston and the throttle, the engine may have to be dismantled for inspection, repair or replacement of many parts.
Change wires on schedule for prevention
Mr. Tien said that the most effective preventive way is to replace the curoa cam wire according to the time or kilometers specified by the manufacturer. Do not wait until the wire shows clear signs of damage to replace it, because the wire may break suddenly during operation.
When changing the belt, it is necessary to simultaneously check related parts such as the booster and pulley. For engines using water pumps driven by cam belt, it is necessary to check or replace this part as recommended by the manufacturer.
For used vehicles without a clear maintenance history, vehicle owners should determine the nearest time to replace the wires. If it is not possible to determine accurately, replacement according to technical recommendations is a safer option, helping to limit the risk of broken wires during operation.
