This recall affects 765LT vehicles manufactured between August 3, 2020 and May 19, 2021. However, 765LT Spider models and vehicles equipped with a special carbon fiber roof panel from MSO are not affected, as they do not have this polycarbonate panel.
The reason for the problem is that the polycarbonate sheet can detach when subjected to high aerodynamic loads, especially when the car is driven at high speeds with the side windows open. McLaren believes that it may be due to a substandard bonding process during manufacturing or a defect in the adhesion process.
The company said it had received a number of complaints about the rear windshield detaching from its support frame. Although there were no reports of injuries, McLaren decided to recall the vehicle and install fixings at each corner of the polycarbonate panel to strengthen it.
While the car is not being inspected, McLaren recommends that drivers do not drive at speeds above 154 km/h with windows open and avoid driving on the track.
The repair will be carried out free of charge by McLaren dealers, who will install a permanent fastener and apply temporary reinforcement if necessary.
