Cooling water leaks are one of the common causes of engine overheating, which can lead to serious damage if not detected and handled in time.
However, many car owners only realize the problem when the engine has reduced capacity or abnormal operating signs appear.
According to Mr. Tran Minh Tien - lecturer of Automotive Technology, Dung Quat College of Technology (Quang Ngai), there are many cases where cars are brought into the garage in a state of engine overheating due to cooling water running out. Car owners cannot determine the cause but only add water to continue moving. However, the amount of cooling water will still quickly deplete because the nature of the system has leaked.
Faced with this phenomenon, technicians will check the cooling system, especially the rubber tubes, to detect cracks or leaks. Because this is often the reason why coolant water continuously leaks out, reducing the heat dissipation capacity of the engine and leading to overheating.
Cooling water pipes are made of rubber, so they will age over time and conditions of use. When signs such as cracks, hardness, bumps or cracks on the surface appear, vehicle owners should replace them according to the manufacturer's recommendations to avoid the risk of leakage.
After determining the cause of the lack of cooling water, the technician will continue to check the ron of the machine cover (gioăng quy lát) because this detail will often lose its sealing ability after an overheating incident.
The cylinder cover is a detail that is responsible for sealing between the body and the cylinder cover, helping to maintain combustion chamber pressure, while preventing lubricant and coolant water from mixing together. When the engine overheats, high temperatures can cause the cylinder cover or assembly surface to be deformed, causing the cylinder cover to lose its sealing ability or be damaged.
When the engine cover is damaged, the engine may have reduced combustion chamber pressure, reduced power, the car operates weakly, and may even be unable to continue moving. If you still try to use it, the temperature continues to rise, which can cause the engine surface to be bent, causing piston belts or damaging many other mechanical details, causing significant repair costs.
To ensure the engine operates stably after repair, this detail will be replaced according to technical recommendations.
Mr. Tien recommends that car owners should periodically check the coolant level in the auxiliary tank when the engine has cooled down and supplement the correct type of solution as recommended by the manufacturer when necessary. If the coolant water continues to drain after supplementation, it is necessary to take the car to the garage for inspection, determine the exact location of leakage and fix it promptly. At the same time, do not open the radiator lid when the engine is still hot to avoid the risk of burns due to pressure in the cooling system.
Early detection and handling of cooling water shortage not only helps prevent overheating but also limits the risk of damage to the engine cover, deformation of the engine surface or other serious engine damages, thereby significantly saving repair costs.
