The missing link between the South and the East
On August 2nd, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that along with site clearance work, the unit is accelerating investment preparation procedures to strive to start the Thu Thiem 4 bridge project on National Day September 2nd, 2026 and complete it in 2028.
Currently, people from the South, including District 7, District 4 and Nha Be district (old), who want to go to Thu Thiem New Urban Area or Thu Duc City (old) mainly have to go through the central area along the Nguyen Tat Thanh, Ton Duc Thang, Khanh Hoi bridge, Saigon River tunnel, Ba Son bridge or Thu Thiem bridge routes.

These are all traffic axes with high traffic volume and frequent congestion during rush hours. Having to go around the center not only prolongs travel time but also increases transportation costs, fuel consumption and creates additional pressure on the existing transport infrastructure system.

Meanwhile, the technical infrastructure inside Thu Thiem New Urban Area, such as four main roads and many other key projects, has been basically completed.
However, this urban area still lacks a direct connection route to the South - where Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, port system, logistics center,... are concentrated.
Shorten the distance, reduce pressure on the center
The Thu Thiem 4 bridge project has a total length of about 2.16 km, of which the bridge section is about 1.635 km long, with a total investment of more than 5,000 billion VND.
The project is designed with a scale of 8 lanes, including 6 lanes for motorized vehicles and 2 mixed lanes.

Thu Thiem 4 bridge will connect Nguyen Van Linh street (Tan Thuan ward) with Nguyen Co Thach street in Thu Thiem New Urban Area (An Khanh ward), forming a direct Saigon River crossing route between the South and East areas.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, when completed, Thu Thiem 4 bridge will open another direct connection route between the South and the East, reducing dependence on roads passing through the center.
The project helps shorten the distance by about 5 - 8 km, saving time, and at the same time reducing traffic pressure for Nguyen Tat Thanh, Khanh Hoi bridge, Kenh Te bridge, Ong Lanh bridge, Nguyen Van Cu bridge and many overloaded intersections.

For logistics activities, the direct connection route between the South and the East will create more favorable conditions for the transportation of goods between Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, the port system and the technology zones, the eastern urban area, thereby improving the efficiency of traffic infrastructure exploitation of the entire region.
Not only solving the traffic problem, the bridge also creates more development momentum for Thu Thiem New Urban Area and the South of Ho Chi Minh City, forming a new economic connecting axis along both banks of the Saigon River.
